CHEETAHS: PAIRS CHAMPS WITH FIRST SUCCESS SINCE 2022 RETURN
OXFORD secured their first senior silverware since returning to the sport in 2022 as Sam Masters and Anders Rowe clinched the Championship Best Pairs at Poole.
The Cheetahs have endured a tough league campaign but they were able to end on a high at Wimborne Road as they overcame Berwick in the Final.
Oxford topped the qualifying scores on 26 points, three ahead of Poole with Berwick and Glasgow completing the top four.
The Cheetahs defeated Glasgow in the first semi-final with Masters winning the race whilst Rowe held on for the crucial third over Leon Flint.
The second semi saw Berwick sensationally put out hosts Poole in an epic race as Richard Lawson was relegated to the back by Nick Morris and Peter Kildemand.
Masters again took the lead in the Final and whilst Kildemand moved into second place, Rowe held position in third to seal the honours for Oxford.
Masters said: “It was nice to finally get a gold. We’ve had a lot of silver since I’ve joined the club but we’ve finally got a gold, and it’s come at the end of the toughest year in the club’s history.
“A big thank you to all the fans who came to support us today – you could see what it meant to them.
“Poole were favourites, and Berwick did us a massive favour by knocking them out in the semi-finals. But I felt we deserved to win – we were the best pair throughout the evening, including in the qualifying races.
“Anders was awesome tonight. He was out there scoring points and we were team riding, which is what this Pairs event is all about. The best team won and I’m glad it was us.”
Rowe added: “It’s awesome to win the Pairs with Oxford. We haven’t had the best of seasons, but we’ve fighting hard all year, and it’s fantastic that we won today.
“I was giving it my all in every race. In the semi and the final, I stuck to the inside and trusted myself that it was right call to make and it was.”

POOLE co-promoter Matt Ford says his club must turn their attentions to team silverware after missing out on home territory in the Championship Best Pairs.
The Pirates were favourites to triumph in a strong line-up and they comfortably reached the semi-finals of the showpiece event.
But they were beaten in that race by Berwick, who had finished three points behind them in the qualifiers, with Zach Cook’s race win more than cancelled out by Peter Kildemand and Nick Morris who finished ahead of Richard Lawson in a frantic battle.
The Pirates now plan for an attempted double in team competition, with their play-off semi-final against Edinburgh to come later this month, and they will also compete in the BSN Series Final.
Ford said: “Let’s hope we can put things right with the next couple.
“It is disappointing of course because you want to win everything you are in, but we’ve got two big things coming up with the play-offs and the BSN Final.”

LEICESTER can secure their ROWE Motor Oil Premiership play-off place with a home win over King’s Lynn tonight (Thursday).
But it’s also a big meeting for the Stars who are trying to chase down the top four and may need positive results from each of their last three fixtures.
The Lions have three home matches to come as they look to secure their position, and they bring in Justin Sedgmen to guest for the retired Kyle Howarth at No.6.
The Stars are at full strength and are led by former Lions captain Max Fricke, who makes his first UK appearance along with Leicester No.1 Ryan Douglas since they won World Team Cup gold with Australia last weekend.
Leicester manager Stewart Dickson said: “We know a win will get us into the play-offs, and that’s what we are focused on first and foremost, rather than thinking about points to win on aggregate.
“I’m expecting a tough meeting, and I think it may well be much closer than the last time King’s Lynn were here. We would expect Max Fricke to score more points this time, and they have other riders who can improve.
“We need to concentrate on our own jobs as a team and look to get to 46 points on the night.”
Stars boss Rob Lyon said: “They are all tough meetings, and the way it’s worked out both ourselves and Ipswich have to race at both Leicester and Northampton.
“Ipswich may need an away win themselves, but that really depends on what we do. It certainly won’t be easy for either of us at Northampton because they have improved.
“With so many Bank Holiday matches being rained off we’re really in the same situation that we were after we beat Ipswich, and now we need to go to Leicester and perform as we are capable of doing. Then we’ll have a clearer picture of whether we could be in or not.”

NORTHAMPTON have an opportunity to affect the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership play-off race as they host two contenders in their last two home matches.
The Foxes, who have only been beaten once in their previous four at the Shaleway, face fourth-placed Ipswich tonight (Thursday) with King’s Lynn to come in a fortnight.
The Witches are fighting to hold off the Stars in the race for the top four, and an away win would be a big step towards achieving it ahead of two home matches next week.
Northampton are at full strength with Ipswich bringing in Lewis Kerr to guest for the injured Scott Nicholls at No.2.
Foxes manager Chris Adams said: “There are two home meetings left for us this year in what has been a tough year for our newly developed club, but also one I’m sure most will agree what an exciting season we have had.
“We, and I’m sure all of you, can see the progress we have made and also how competitive we have been in the top flight of speedway in only our first year.
“Ipswich will be another tough meeting, as they all are, but I’m hoping now that if everything falls into place we can get another home victory over the line.”
Witches boss Paul Hurry said: “We’re going there with an open mind. We haven’t ridden for a week or two, so fingers crossed the boys can do what they do, and we can make it into the play-offs.
“Knowing Tony Gaul from the Foxes promotional side, they have put a hell of a lot of work and effort into it. They won’t want to be beaten by us again. They will want to finish on a high.
“Fair play to them – you don’t go into any competition wanting to lose. That’s not the name of the game. It’s all about winning, and we are expecting a tough fight. We’ll go there, do the best job we can and see where we end up.”

GREAT Britian compete in the FIM European 250cc Pairs Championship today (Thursday) in Gdansk, Poland.
The series was previously was held over multi rounds, but this season it is a one-off meeting, and the winners of today’s event will be crowned the European Champions.
Seven pairs take part including the GB team of SGP3 Finalist Archie Rolph, who captains the side along with 250cc European Finalist Oli Bovingdon.
Both Rolph and Bovingdon, who have been in good form racing in this year’s British Youth Championship, have experience of the Gdansk track, with Rolph representing GB in the Pairs event at the same venue in 2025, and Bovingdon has ridden there previously in the 125cc class.
Teams from Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Romania are represented as well as a mixed team of Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
