THE REAL DEAL DOMINANT AT AVALONG
Photo by: Tony Loxley… Jamie Veal celebrates his Avalon Sprintcar feature win.
Jamie Veal drove superbly in round three of the Eureka Garages and Sheds SRA Series and Fireball Derby after he took out the main event by over seven seconds from Lachlan McHugh and Grant Anderson.
Bobby Daly started his night with an overall quickest time courtesy of his late flight start with Jamie Veal, Grant Anderson and Brett Milburn taking their individual flight quickest time awards.
Heat wins were recorded by Matthew Reed in heat one, Jordan Rae in heat two, Michael Tancredi (heat three) and Lachlan Mchugh (heat four.)
The V35 driven by Veal was simply too quick when it came time for the Top Eight Shootout. Veal qualified from pole position with McCullagh, Milburn, Daly, Anderson, McHugh, Tancredi and Reed making up the top eight.
The 10 Lap C-Main was won by Daniel Reinhardt with Marlin Carrigan Walsh, Mitch Smith and Luke Thomas qualifying into the B Main.
With six spots on offer for the all important main event, Dennis Jones knew he had to lock down that top spot in the B to head through. Going with Jones were Ashley Cook, Eddie Lumbar, Jordyn Charge, Tim Hutchins and Paul Solomon.
The 30-lap feature provided early caution. A melee re-stacked the field for 28 laps remaining under green while Jamie Veal simply put on a clinic. Veal lapped three quarters of the field before a green/ white chequer caution at the end of the race saw him with a seven second lead in a dominant performance at the “Place for Pace.”
McHugh and Anderson both put on a show as they ran around the fence through traffic and ultimately settled for second and third respectively.
Brett Milburn and Matthew Reed made up the remaining two spots in the top five before Rankin, McCullagh, Daly, Rae and Hughes rounded out the top 10 in round three of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series and Sprintcar Fireball Derby – a traditional race which honours the Evans family.
Street Stocks ran their long running Bruce Riddiford Memorial. Ricky Throckmorton took out heat one while Tim Hutchinson claimed the second heat.
With just a second separating the two in the final, it was Throckmorton who had the advantage over the line. Tim Hutchinson finished on the podium in second alongside Jensen Wilson. Leigh Bourke, Ellen Vagg and Mick Hume made up the short and sharp field of Street Stocks.
Avalon Raceway will now turn its attention to the massive December 26 for Sprintcars and December 30 for the Clay Per View Sprintcars Speedweek.
