WITCHES’ WIN FOR NEW BOSS
IPSWICH opened up their new era with a 50-40 win over local rivals King’s Lynn in the southern section of the Premiership KO Cup.
The Witches made a flying start at Foxhall, going 12 points up after just four races, and they led 39-21 with five heats to go.
However, a Stars comeback inspired by new signing Max Fricke and skipper Chris Harris saw the visitors pick up back-to-back 5-1s to reduce the gap ahead of the return on Monday where the aggregate point will be at stake.
Richard Lawson top-scored for the Witches on his return to the club with 10+1 and Rising Star Jason Edwards impressed with three race wins as he scored nine. Fricke piled up 16 from six rides for the visitors with Harris on 9+2.
New Ipswich boss Paul Hurry said: “I didn’t really know what to expect. It’s all new for me, and all new for Richard (Coleman) and Andrew (Chisholm). It was a good night.
“The track wasn’t ideal because a few dark clouds came over beforehand. They held off on the watering a bit.
“Hopefully next time we are here, the track might suit the boys a little bit more and they’ll all be dialled in. But the night was great. I enjoyed it. It’s a bit of a learning curve for me, and I am just looking forward to the rest of the season.”
King’s Lynn manager Rob Lyon said: “The first four heats was a bit of a shellshock, but the boys made a lot of changes and got into the meeting, and we contained Ipswich from that point on really.
“We were a little unlucky with Jan (Kvech) having his engine problem in Heat 13 which would have reduced it even further to six points – but ten is not insurmountable, and we’re good enough to get the aggregate point on Monday.”

SCOTTISH rivals Edinburgh and Glasgow meet for the first time this season when they clash in the BSN Series at Armadale tonight (Friday).
The clubs shared several dramatic encounters in 2025, and there has been a major transfer between them over the winter with Dan Thompson switching to the Monarchs camp after a strong season at Ashfield.
Mitchell Cluff also makes his debut for the home side, whilst the Tigers have three incoming riders in Mario Hausl, Kevin Juhl Pedersen and Sam Hagon.
Edinburgh boss Alex Harkess said: “I’m sure Glasgow will bring a fair crowd and I hope the weather is much better than it’s been.
“Glasgow’s team will depend a lot on their two new riders in the middle of the team, and certainly the Danish lad Pedersen looked very good round their place in the Bonanza.
“But it’s up to us to perform as we are capable of, that’s what it is all about. Hopefully that will happen. The man that won the matches for them here last year is on our side this time!”
Glasgow manager Cami Brown said: “It’s never easy going to Armadale, it will be an early acid test. But we will have our fans travelling through and on the third bend as usual making a lot of noise.
“Our boys have got to perform for them. We’ve got a decent record against the Monarchs recently but that means nothing now, we start from zero this season.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the lads together as a team, I’m confident we can do a good job.”

REDCAR complete their home BSN Series programme tonight (Friday) as they face a Workington team who are racing for the first time this season.
The Bears have three points on the board in the Northern section after taking the aggregate point from their clashes with Scunthorpe in the early weeks.
A change of riding order for the home side sees Ace Pijper move up into the top five whilst Jake Mulford goes to reserve.
New signings Jonas Jeppesen, Niklas Holm Jakobsen and Jamie Etherington make their Comets debuts, and Craig Cook is back with the Cumbrian club.
Redcar skipper Jason Edwards said: “Workington are tipped to be a very strong team this year but haven’t had a match yet, which could be a big disadvantage as, for some riders, it’s really important to be riding regularly.
“For others, especially the more experienced riders, it doesn’t seem to matter so much – but I personally think you want to be riding every three or four days.”
REDCAR: Nicolai Klindt, Ace Pijper, Jordan Jenkins, Jason Edwards, Jake Allen, Jake Mulford, Jody Scott.
WORKINGTON: Jonas Jeppesen, Niklas Holm Jakobsen, Craig Cook, Tate Zischke, Troy Batchelor, Vinnie Foord, Jamie Etherington.

SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey says a home victory is the first target as his side welcome holders Poole in the second leg of their MAXiCab KO Cup tie tonight (Friday).
The Scorpions face a huge task to maintain their interest in the competition having gone down 61-29 in Dorset on Wednesday, in what was a second consecutive away defeat.
But they did win their Eddie Wright Raceway opener against Redcar, and Godfrey says he needs to see a response from his riders to recent results.
He said: “We’re realistic and it’s not about the aggregate win against Poole. But then again this is speedway where anything can happen. But, first and foremost, it’s about making sure we take victory on the night. Winning at home is the bread and butter for all clubs.
“Poole have once again put together a very good side and it will be a top night of speedway with some great racing, and we’ll do everything we can to win on the evening.
“As for our performance in the first leg at Poole on Wednesday night, it was clear that we are currently lacking in certain departments and our riders know that we need an immediate response.”
SCUNTHORPE: Josh Pickering, Nathan Ablitt, Luke Harrison, Connor Mountain, Michael Palm Toft, Simon Lambert, Ryan Ingram.
POOLE: Richard Lawson, Kyle Newman, Lewis Kerr, Fraser Bowes, Zach Cook, William Cairns, Cooper Rushen.
