New Zealand’s Hayden Williams is one of the favourites for the 2026 50-lap Midget-Speedcar main event at Western Sydney Speedway, Saturday night, April 11.
Hayden is no stranger to Australia and has enjoyed considerable success here over the years, highlighted with his Trans-Tasman win at the former Parramatta City Raceway.
A runner-up in the 2024 Australian Speedcar Championship to Sydney’s Kaidon Brown at South Australia’s Murray Bridge venue, clearly shows that Hayden Williams, 35, is a “gun’ backed with his impressive New Zealand-Midget-Speedcar Championship winning credentials.
“”I’d like to one day win the Australian Speedcar Championship, to then have both,” Hayden enthused.
Hayden has again teamed with Sydney Speedcar owner Andy Hassan and will drive the brute horsepower J5H GRD Chev powered car. Chassis is similar to a Spike design and the car is ultra competitive.
It’s a very good partnership between Andy and Hayden that has a very firm competitive edge to it.
“My dad and Andy have been friends for a while. Over that time, driving the car, they have come up with a few ideas and we generally have had good results. Since we have run with Andy, we have been on the podium almost every time, except just two,” Hayden said.
Considering Hayden started racing aged five, his overall career success winning total in Midgets culminates to 45 feature race victories – one of the highlights, Victoria’s 2023 Beasley Memorial.
In 2021 he also ran with the United States Auto Club (USAC) Midgets on their national championship trail and finished 19th in the final standings, while he also competed in USAC’s 2021 Western States Midget series.
Hayden, who is a 2024 NSW Speedcar Championship runner-up, comes into strong calculations for honours in the 2026 Sydney Midget-Speedcar 50 lapper.
“For me, racing has to be fun and it’s good to come to Australia to race at different tracks compared to back home in New Zealand.
He says, Western Sydney Speedway is “a good track” for Midget-Speedcar racing.
