PIRATES’ DOUBLE DELIGHT
POOLE completed an Easter weekend double over Plymouth to establish a strong position in the Southern group of the BSN Series.
The Pirates won 48-42 at the Coliseum on Saturday with the key moments of the meeting coming in Heats 8 and 10 where they recorded a pair of 5-1s to go eight points up.
Whilst the Gladiators had fought back from an earlier six-point deficit, they were unable to bridge the gap on this occasion, although they did force a last heat decider with Richard Lawson taking the honours for the visitors and Lewis Kerr adding third place.
Lawson top scored with 12+1 whilst all members of the Pirates team collected at least one win or paid win, including 16-year-old Cooper Rushen who was involved in 5-1s in Heats 2 and 8. Ben Barker top scored for the Gladiators with 11 points, and Scott Nicholls picked up 10+2.
Rushen said: “I feel great about getting those paid wins. It has been a good night for me and a good night for the team overall.
“Everyone has done their job, so we can’t complain. We came here tonight and we wanted that aggregate point, and we have done more than that. We’ve got the win today, and that bettered the plan.”
