DESPITE it not being a victory, Michael Stewart and the Bohud Racing team came away with their best performance of the 2024-25 season campaign following a podium finish in last weekend’s Red Hot Shootout at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway in Queensland.
A third place finish in the $20,000 to win Red Hot Shootout event feature race was a very satisfying result for Stewart and the team, which trumped any one of their seven feature race victories so far this season, mainly due to the fact of the calibre of the competition they were up against.
“To be able to share the podium with Lachlan McHugh and James McFadden in a blue-ribbon event is a massive achievement for our small team, as they are two of the nation’s best racers, so to be up there with them is something really special,” said the NS # 14 ARRMA Australia / Illawarra Truck Repairs & Spares supported Triple X car driver. The podium finish was made all the more sweeter, due to the fact that he was put back two places during a late restart to fifth because of an alleged earlier restart breach judged by the chief steward.
“The Red Hot Shootout is quickly becoming one of the major events on the season calendar and the calibre of drivers attracted to this season’s event is a strong example of that, and to be able to finish on the podium is without a shadow of a doubt one of the biggest achievements of not only our current season but the team’s short three-year history.”
Over the two nights of the Red Hot Shootout, Stewart and the Bohud Racing team were top five contenders and their podium finish, which earned them $5,000 for third, after they had started the feature race from position five, was testament to the form they carried not only over the weekend but during their entire 2024-25 season campaign so far.
Bohud Racing team owner Scott Jones was once again rapt with the performance of not only his driver but his team.
“I couldn’t be prouder of Michael and the entire Bohud Racing team with this latest outstanding performance, as it’s been a fantastic run so far this season,” he said.
“Being such a fresh team up against so many of the country’s biggest Sprintcar teams comes with so many challenges, but Michael and the team just keep rising to the challenge and last weekend’s Red Hot Shootout podium finish was certainly proof of that.”
The Red Hot Shootout podium finish adds to the impressive list of 2024-25 season achievements so far for Stewart and the Bohud Racing team, which includes of a total of seven feature race wins, six at Sydney International Speedway and one at ACT Speedway, as well as an overall win during the Adelaide 500 event that paid $25,000.
In what was a massive weekend for the Red Hot Shootout, Stewart and the Bohud Racing team returns to familiar territory this Easter Long Weekend, when they contest the Capital to Coast Clash Easter Trail at Canberra’s ACT Speedway this coming Good Friday (April 18) for the opening round and then Nowra Speedway this Saturday night (April 19) for the second and final round.
