SPEEDCARS AT TOOWOOMBA SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5
Speedcars kick-off their 2024-25 season at the Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway on Saturday October 5 with the running of the 25 lap Danny Davidson Memorial race.
Davidson was a star in Speedcar racing in the 1970s and 80s only to pass away from cancer in 2000 at the age of 58. Seventeen cars have nominated to contest the event with many capable of taking the win.
Reigning Queensland Champion Dylan Menz will be keen to again stand top of the podium after an injury earlier this year caused him to miss the second half of last season. He is back to full fitness and has been racing his Sprintcar in Darwin to prepare himself for the new season.
Rusty Whittaker, Casey O’Connell, Scott Farmer and Michael Kendall should also be amongst the favourites while teenagers Harry Stewart and Tim Devine will be looking to get to the front early in the feature.
Lismore teenager Daisy Smith makes her Speedcar debut after racing a F500 the last couple of years. Practice went well for Smith but under the rules she will have to start her races from the rear of the field to gain some experience.
Two drivers who haven’t done much racing over the past 12 months are Lachy Paulger and Tom Clauss as they have been busy with their respective businesses. Both are second generation racers with Lachy’s father Shane a well-known Super Sedan driver while Peter Clauss, father of Tom, was a standout in F500s.
This is the beginning of a big season at Toowoomba for the Speedcars and the action will be fast and furious from the green to chequered flag.
