PERTH MOTORPLEX: GRAND MARSHAL ANNOUNCED
With the Mobil 1 82nd Australian Speedcar Championship coming up in under a week’s time, the West Australian Speedcar Drivers’ Association (WASDA), in conjunction with the Perth Motorplex, is proud to announce Speedcar legend Charlie West will be Grand Marshal for the event!
Making his name initially from his exploits on two wheels where he was a standout motorcross/scrambles racer, he contested races all over the world with six Australian Titles and four other podiums, as well as seventeen State Titles.
He would then move into the four wheeled speedway divisions, initially into the TQs where he grabbed twenty-three wins at Perth’s Claremont Speedway alone, then eventually moving into Speedcars where he grabbed an amazing thirty feature wins.
West was second in the Australian Speedcar Title in the 1971/72 season when it was held as a series, while he also won the 1969/70 WA Speedcar Title and grabbed third in 1973/74, amongst many other career highlights.
“It is an honour for us to be able to pay tribute to Charlie West next weekend, having him act as the Grand Marshal for the Australian Speedcar Championship, also adding his name to a heat race alongside the previous WA winners of the Australian Championship,” a Perth Motorplex spokesman said.
