Sprintcar racing in Australia will drop the green flag tonight on seven nights of racing over the next ten days, offering in excess of $460,000 in prizemoney.
The postponement of last night’s President’s Cup at Avalon Raceway until next Wednesday has jammed the high budget schedule into a ten day race-fest, with Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway primed to host a stellar sixty car field tonight (Thursday) for the 30th running of the King’s Challenge, featuring nine Americans battling for the $12,500 first prize.
A mammoth convoy of team transporters and fan motorhomes will then head to Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway for the Flying Horse Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday before returning to Avalon on the following Wednesday for the postponed Presidents Cup.
Australian racers will then head back to Warrnambool for the Locked Down Australian Sprintcar Championship on the Australia Day Friday and Saturday.
The United States contingent for the first three events will be spearheaded by fan favourite Rico Abreu along with fellow Californians Carson Macedo and Cory Eliason, while Sheldon Haudenschild, Aaron Reutzel and Brock Zearfoss will also fly the stars and stripes flanked by Riley Goodno, Justin Peck and Chase Randall.
Australia will have an impressive defence with reigning Australian champ Jock Goodyer and Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic 2023 winner Brock Hallett leading the charge, along with defending King’s Challenge victor James McFadden aiming for a hattrick of wins.
The 30th running of the event also boasts the season-first appearance of polarising Iowa based racer Kerry Madsen, who returns to the famed Krikke Motorsport stable, as Lockie McHugh, Jamie Veal and Marcus Dumesny are all tipped to be standouts. The expectation around Supercars star Cam Waters has also rapidly increased after his podium result at the Avalon International last week.
The Kings Challenge, Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic and Presidents Cup will be all live streamed on speedway subscription platform, ClayPerView.com while the Australian Sprintcar Championship will be broadcast live and free on 7plus.
