CAB DIRECT SPONSORSHIP CONTINUES
BRITISH Speedway’s Championship division will race into the 2024 season with an extension of its title sponsorship deal.
The league will continue to enjoy the backing of Cab Direct after a highly successful first year of collaboration between the two parties.
Fixtures for the new season have been announced with Glasgow defending the Cab Direct Championship title, and the clubs will also be vying for honours in the KO Cup and the BSN Series.
Cab Direct, the UK’s top taxi supplier, were established in 1996 and serve hackney and private hire operators and drivers across the country with both standard and special purchase vehicles to meet the needs of taxi trade professionals.
They came on board to back the Championship in 2023 and will continue to use their extensive communication channels to help publicise the sport of speedway, whilst their signage will once again be evident around the league’s nine venues.
Lisa Keir, Head of Marketing for Cab Direct, commented: “We had a fantastic response to sponsoring the British Speedway Championship last year from our customer base of tens of thousands of taxi drivers across the UK who relished the exciting racing action.
“We are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the British Speedway Championship for the 2024 racing season.
“Cab Direct is the UK’s leading taxi supplier and Speedway is the perfect partner as it represents all things motoring which resonates with our customer audience.”
British Speedway Chairman Rob Godfrey said: “It’s great news for the Championship to be able to welcome Cab Direct back for a second season.
“We very much value their support and when we knew they were looking to extend the arrangement, it was a very straightforward agreement for us to reach.
“We look forward to working with Cab Direct again next year, and now that the fixtures have been announced there is even more anticipation for 2024.
“I’m sure we can look forward to another ultra-competitive season, so we wish everyone a happy and peaceful festive period and we can’t wait to get started next year.”
Opening night in the Cab Direct Championship is Friday May 3 where champions Glasgow host newcomers Workington, whilst Redcar take on Scunthorpe. The following night sees 2021 and 2022 winners Poole visit Berwick.
However, there is plenty of action before that in late March and April, with the BSN Series kicking off the official season at Championship level as holders Poole host Oxford and Scunthorpe take on Workington on Good Friday, March 29.
The first round tie in the KO Cup involving this year’s winners Scunthorpe, who take on Plymouth, has been set for Friday April 12 and Saturday April 13, with the quarter-finals also scheduled to take place in the early weeks of the season.
Following their step up to Championship level, Workington will continue to stage home fixtures on Saturdays at 3pm, whilst Plymouth have switched racenight as the majority of their home fixtures will take place on Saturdays at 7pm. The Gladiators retain Tuesday evenings as their alternative.
