FIM SPEEDWAY: WORYNA EQUAL POINTS LEADER IN EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Polish racer Kacper Woryna stormed joint top of the Speedway European Championship after winning round three of the series in Pardubice on Saturday, September 19.

Woryna got the better of fellow countryman Maciej Janowski, who crashed in the first two runs of the final, winning ahead of the former world number three, who was second, while Latvian ace Andzejs Lebedevs took third place.

A close-fought round in Rzeszow has set up an epic SEC series decider at the final round in Pardubice on October 2, with Woryna tied on 34 points in top spot with two-time champion Leon Madsen. Janowski and Michael Jepsen Jensen are level on 33 in third and fourth, while Patryk Dudek is also in the hunt in fifth place on 30, with Czech charger Jan Kvech on 29 in sixth.

The European Champion earns automatic qualification for the 2027 Speedway GP series. If the SEC winner has already confirmed their place in Speedway GP by finishing in the World Championship’s top seven or via the FIM SGP Challenge, the SGP Commission will nominate an additional wild card.

Having finished third at the Challenge, Woryna’s SGP spot is already certain for 2027. But having won his first Speedway GP, Poland’s Golden Helmet and made his national team debut at the BOLL FIM Speedway World Cup Final – Warsaw, winning the SEC title would crown an outstanding year for Woryna. He said: “Obviously it would be an amazing achievement to get. It’s one of the reasons we race here, and it would be lovely.

“It has been a good night for me really. I have never had a good meeting in Rzeszow. I have never enjoyed this track much, but it was a pleasure to ride it, and I am over the moon to get a win finally.
“I changed myself, my setup, my bikes – everything. I tried a completely different thing that I have never tried in Rzeszow, and it just paid off.”

Woryna can’t wait to play his part in a tense SEC title decider in Pardubice. He said: “The SEC is always really tight at the end. I have been doing this for quite a long time, and I guess I have experienced much. There is always something new.

I go to Pardubice as one of the leaders. After Zielona Gora, I would never have thought I would have the leader jacket after round three.
“You have to be focused all the time, keep pushing, keep working and we will see how it goes.

“Like Rzeszow, I have never had a good meeting in Pardubice. I have had okay meetings, but I was never quite fast enough to achieve something. We will see what happens.”

Woryna now bids to end his SGP season on a high at the DEWALT FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Torun on Saturday, September 26.
Currently placed seventh in the SGP standings, he said: “I am looking forward to Torun. I’ve had a really good series; obviously some ups and downs and lessons to learn from. I want to have a good round. I want to build on the momentum I had in Vojens, where I thought I was already in the final, but I wasn’t. I’ll just try to keep up the good form and see where it takes me.”
