QUEENSLAND SUPER SEDAN CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
By David Budden (Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway)
The stage is set for one of the biggest weekends on the Queensland Super Sedan calendar, with the running of the 2026 Queensland Championship.
The blue ribbon event is steeped in tradition. First contested in 1984 at the beginning of the Super Sedan era. Rod Gough claimed the title then at the Gladstone Showgrounds. This upcoming weekend a quality field may exceed a 30 car entry list in pursuit of the Queensland title. One may be confused thinking its an Australian Championship looking at the impressive nomination list with drivers coming from Victoria, West Australia and Tasmania and serves as an indicator just how seriously the Queensland Super Sedan title is taken by some of the biggest names in the sport right across the country.
Leading the charge will be current Queensland Champion Brad Pascoe. He has the opportunity once again to write himself into the history books and win another state crown. Pascoe is no stranger to the podium winning the Tasmanian, New South Wales and South Australian Championships. Standing in his way is back-to back-Australian Championship winner Joel Berkley. Berkley, no stranger to Toowoomba’s highbanks, will certainly be on the pace come Saturday night and has to be considered one of the favourites going into the weekend. The field is packed with former winners, including defending McCosker Series Champion Harry Doyle, as he looks to get the summer off to the perfect start.
Zac Brims finished on the top step of the podium at last weekend’s round one of the McCosker Series and is confident he can keep his momentum rolling along into Saturday night. Zac will be joined by his brother Jackson, undoubtedly he will be looking to build upon his first season in a Super Sedan in which he claimed Rookie of the Year.
The Brims brothers will have to contend with a pair of former National Champions in Trent Wilson and Steve Jordan. Toowoomba’s Sean Black makes a welcome return to Hi-Tec-Oils Speedway for the first time this summer. It’s been a busy winter especially with the addition of the Late Model, the team is now ready for a big summer of competition and excited to have plenty of racing at home this season in both the Late Model and the Super Sedan. Black certainly knows his way around Toowoomba Speedway and will be one of the leading drivers to watch on Saturday night.
If you like Sedan racing, Saturday night is the night for you as round one of the Engage Ag Production Sedan Champions Series powered by Steering and Suspension Warehouse rolls into town. Again another quality field has assembled as they chase valuable series points from the start. Current Australian Champion
Jordan Biviano tops the nomination list, as does Ricky Gill and Jye O’Brien. Toowoomba’s Emm Whell also on the list which could easily reach a 20 car field at close of nominations.
Round two of the Bully’s Off-Road 4WD Street Stock Dirt Masters Series is also on the program, after an entertaining night of racing during round one two weeks ago Darren Ciesiolka leads the points race from Luke Wilkinson and Matt Langton. Junior Sedans are on track for the first time this summer for the Toowoomba Courier and Transport Club Championship Lachie Burke the current Australian champion will be the driver to watch as he sets out chasing series points.
There is something for everyone on Saturday night with a touch of open wheel to add to the quality program. The 6th Annual Highbanks Shootout presented by SRV Road Freight and Forza Global Engineering is the last event before the Queensland Title at Hi-Tec-Oils Toowoomba Speedway on the 7th of November. It’s going to be a hard-fought night with a gruelling format designed to bring out the best racing.
Seniors will qualify, then the heats followed by a mid pack Shootout, the top six qualifying cars will be joined by the top two transfers in the Stars Shootout which will determine where they’ll be starting, one through to eight for the 20 lap $1,000 to win A-Main event. A similar format for the Juniors.
Something to think about:
It’s less than 50 days before the running of the NuTrend Homes Australian Sprintcar Championship at Hi-Tec-Oils Toowoomba Speedway. On Wednesday night, November 18, the Prelude to the national title will be held and then Friday and Saturday night, November 20 and 21, the Australian Sprintcar Championship goes under the flag.
