FIM SPEEDWAY: HOLDER INJURY UPDATE
Aussie star Jack Holder admits he is facing some “very scary times” as he battles nerve damage following his crash at the DEWALT FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw on June 20.
Holder was involved in a first-bend clash with Kacper Woryna and Jason Doyle in heat six at the Olympic Stadium and remains sidelined.
Speaking to the British Speedway Network on Monday evening, Holder was able to give a positive update on his broken bones. But he admits nerve damage is giving him cause for concern.
He said: “All the breaks and everything is going well – my foot, my back and my arm is all plated. That’s all good.
“I just have a few nerve problems at the moment. I can’t really move my hand, as some people may have seen on social media.
“It’s pretty scary right now. I’m trying to be as positive as I can. I can’t do much right this second. I have to wait for the 12 weeks to go back to the surgeon to see what nerves I have done. I think I have done some damage to my radial nerve that goes down my neck and into my arm.
“It’s very scary times at the moment. I have good grip strength; I just can’t move my hand.”
While Holder admits he can deal with the injuries, he admits being unable to ride with son Chase has been tough.
He said: “I have a two-and-a-half-year-old son that loves his little balance bike. He wants me out there on my 110cc.
“To try and communicate with him and say, ‘Daddy has got owies; I can’t do that.’ I can deal with what I am dealing with, but to tell him that and break his heart is tough.
“There are plenty of dark times. It’s very dark at the moment. I am trying to come here and obviously support my brother and Sheffield. I have kept all of my injuries quiet, very quiet. It is tough right now, and it is very scary for me.”
Everyone involved in FIM Speedway sends Jack our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
