Less than 48 hours after the Speedweek concluded, many drivers will go racing at Sydney for the start of the new PWR-TFH Sprintcar Power Tour this Saturday night (January 3).
Fittingly, the season opener will be the 50th sprintcar main event held at the revived Western Sydney Speedway.
The Sprintcar Power Tour is a new series that offers drivers more chances to race across the east coast throughout the blockbuster month of January.
After the Sydney opener, rounds will be held in Queensland and South Australia with races at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway (January 7, 9 and 10) B&S Earthworks Timmis Speedway (January 14) and Tolmer Speedway (January 16/17).
Teams and drivers from Australia, New Zealand and America will all be on show battling for over $225,000 in prize money.
A total of 32 cars have entered for the Sydney opener with many stars backing up from the Brandt Sprintcar Speedweek.
The man to beat will be Lockie McHugh, fresh from his second Brandt Sprintcar Speedweek crown.
Jock Goodyer is always a frontrunner and will be determined to get something back for the 3,833km roadtrip his team have completed to be there.
There will be a boost of three Kiwis on show, led by NZ champion Max Guilford, plus Travis Buckley and Zackary Sokol.
Waving the American flag with pride will be TJ Stutts and Tim Kaeding. Californian Kaeding will turn heads racing a striking Marlboro-inspired livery for JMS Motorsport.
“I hired TK because he’s got huge experience racing here in Australia as well of course the USA, he knows how to get the most from his car and his team and because he’s always up for putting on a show,” says car owner Jimmy Matchett.
“We definitely want to enjoy ourselves but we know that it’s important to make a statement with this sweet looking car. And the best statement we can make is to put it up the front. “The Sprintcar Power Tour is an important new event for our sport and we’re excited to be part of it.
“Kicking off at our team’s home track is important to us and we want to put on great show.”
