Gillman Speedway track championships this Saturday night, November 22

After a false start a fortnight ago, when his bike wasn’t ready, Adelaide’s international Solo rider Fraser Bowes returns to action this Saturday night (November 22) in the Safe Fire Electrical Gillman Speedway Solo Championship, one of three track championships on the programme.
Solo numbers are down for this week, with a number of the young interstate riders who competed on the opening night racing in a major meeting in New South Wales, but the contest for the local track title should be tight as Bowes comes up against former champion Jake Turner, who was a finalist at the opening meeting, and fellow Mildura-based rider Dayle Wood, who has just returned from a season riding with Berwick Bandits in the UK. Also looking to force his way onto the podium will be 17-year-old Harry Sadler, who was a semi-finalist on the opening might.
The biggest class on the programme will be the Sidecars, with a full field of 16 contesting their championship, including the Kiwi stars from the opening night, Taylor Green and Callum Innes. The New Zealand number four duo, received plenty of applause from the crowd when they went through the card unbeaten in their first Gillman appearance, an all the more meritorious achievement as they ended upside down in their first ride. That could have been the end of them for the night, but they came out for the rerun, won it, and then won their other three heats and the final despite strong opposition from Kym Menadue/Shane Dolan, Shane Rudloff/Damian Egan, Brian Silvy/Glen Zaworski and Josh Pascoe/Dale Knights.
If they can repeat that effort this week it will be a mighty effort as they come up against even stronger opposition with current Australia #2 Trent Headland, #4 Justin Plaisted, #5 Byren Gates, and former #3 Shane Hudson joining the fray. That’s a line-up akin to an Australian Championship final! Hudson is also the defending champion and one of only two previous winners, along with Shane Rudloff, in the line-up. History shows this is a hard event to win as both Trent Headland and Justin Plaisted have won the Australian Championship, but have not been able to win the Gillman track championship. Plaisted has won as a passenger with Darrin Treloar, but his best results as a rider have been a couple of second placings, while Headland’s best result is a third.
Rounding out the programme will be the Flat Track Solo Championship and Jaxon Rayner, after winning the Gillman Flat Track Cup during the winter, and riding unbeaten on the opening night, looks the goods to win with Port Pirie long-track veteran David Footner and Jesse Headland the favourites to join him on the podium.
There is also a good line-up of under 16 125cc riders competing on the infield junior track during the main track grades.
Gates will open at 4pm, and racing will start at 7pm.
For those that can’t attend, the meeting will be livestreamed through the website link [for this meeting https://www.spacequakesports.com/new-page. As always this is the only official livestreaming link. Any other links touted on facebook sites (other than the official Gillman speedway facebook site) are scams and should be ignored.
