SIDECAR SUPREMO DARRIN TRELOAR INDUCTED INTO MOTORCYCLING NSW HALL OF FAME

Australia’s most decorated Speedway Sidecar rider of all time Darrin Treloar has been inducted into the Motorcycling New South Wales Hall of Fame for 2025.
A crowd of over 150 people attended a formal evening at the Bankstown Sports Club with a number of riders flying in from around Australia along with family and close friends for the special occasion to pay respect to the man known as “The Goat”
A video was played during the evening with fellow competitors and spectators from all parts of the globe who sent messages of congratulations to Darrin on being inducted into the Hall of Fame for 2025. Everyone acknowledged his outstanding career and what he has achieved in the sport since he began riding as a 16 year old in 1984 (and has been riding for 41 years)!

A private function was held back at the Treloar home after the presentation for invited family and close friends to celebrate the induction highlighted with Darrin’s arrival in a 22 seat stretch hummer. A special cake was made for the occasion which included 12 gold stars to indicate12 Australian Sidecar Championship wins,12 gold stars in the balloons (which decorated the room) and labels on the beer, wine and champagne bottles to celebrate the special night.
Darrin, 57, is the son of former Australian test captain and New South Wales and Victorian Champion Garry Treloar so Speedway was flowing through his blood from a very young age!
Darrin’s lists of achievements is simply sensational
He has competed in an amazing thirty-three Australian Sidecar Championship’s at seventeen different venues since he debuted at Cairns in 1986 for twenty three top four finishes which includes 12 victories (a record for an Australian competitor in any division), four seconds, three thirds and four fourths in a record setting achievement that nobody will ever get near. He has won four with current passenger Blake Cox (which is an equal record as well as winning a hat-trick of Aussie titles twice (another record), along with an amazing forty-four state title wins (again another record no one will get close to), made up of 25 NSW title wins (another record – 8 with Blake Cox, another record, and 8 in a row between 2015 to 2022, (another record) as well as 7 SA titles (a record he held on his own, now he shares with Mark Plaisted who joined him last season with seven wins), 6 Queensland Titles, 5 Victorian Titles and 1 Tasmanian Title.
His victories and success has also seen him win the 2011 FIM Track Racing World championship at Murray Bridge,the FIM Track Racing Gold Cup at Kings Lynn in the UK in 2008, two FIM Speedway World Cup.Titles, three Oceania Championship’s, five Bob White Cups, three Gary Moon Memoria’s, five Australian Long Track Titles and Two Australian Pairs/Teams Championships – just to name a few of his outstanding achievements of his illustrious career.
Darrin’s passengers over the years have been Allan Griffiths, Justin Plaisted, Mick Chase, John Ellerm, Zac Hogan, Billy Gilbert, Sam Gilbert, Simon Cohrs, Jesse Headland and current passenger Blake Cox who has been with Darrin since 2013.
Long time friend and leading speedway statistician Mark Neale said: “Darrin Treloar is without doubt a worthy inductee into the New South Wales Motorcycling Hall of Fame – in-fact he should be in the Australian Sports Hall of Fame (but that will come in the future I’m sure) for his achievements to the sport of Speedway Sidecar racing both on and off the track. His years in Speedway Sidecar racing also includes building frames, engines and promoting the sport both here in Australia and overseas and he is now heavily involved on the Speedway Commission.
“His list of achievements is simply sensational and I feel confidently saying we will never see a competitor in the history of Australian Speedway compete at such a high level for such a long time of over forty years in any division and have anywhere near that much success. I feel safe saying that Darrin’s twelve Australian Championship victories will never be equalled or broken.His nickname “The Goat certainly sits well”.
