By David Budden
Sprintcars are back at Hi-Tec-Oils Toowoomba Speedway this Saturday afternoon, June 21, for Round Two of the Winter Series featuring 410 and 360 LS Sprintcars at the twilight show.
Round One winner Harry Stewart headlines a classy field, while Luke Oldfield will be back seeking a place on the podium.
If you include Sydney’s Michael Saller, Tasmanian Shaun Dobson and Toowoomba’s Nick Whell, the racing will be exciting to watch if Round One was any indication.
Whell is having a stellar season after he finished third in the Queensland Speedway Spares Ultimate Sprintcar Championship. Tarhlea Apelt is undoubtedly in her best summer of racing to date and has been consistently improving while growing in confidence over the past few seasons. Her ability to qualify well was recognized at the Sprintcars Queensland Awards night where she took home the Most Improved Driver Award for the 2024-25 season. Toowoomba’s Charlie Bowen took out the Rookie of the Year. Both drivers are upcoming talents that are sure to be ones to watch in the years ahead and close to their first time on the podium.
Jason Faint and Ronald McDonnell lead the nominations after recent strong performances in 360-LS Sprintcars, while Luke Harper, Jack Walker and Casey Collins will be among the action. Brodie Tulloch and James Oliver have secured a second place result this season and will be looking to add a win this weekend, while Jason Faint will be chasing the repeat after winning Round One.
Sixteen Speedcars are set for the season grand finale of the Snowball Series.
The driver line-up includes most of the big names of Queensland Speedcar racing featuring the top three in the series Harry Stewart, Scott Farmer and Tom Clauss. Add Casey O’Connell, Michael Kendall and Darren Vine, who are all capable of matching it with the opposition, the wheel to wheel racing should be first class as will the support classes of Junior Formula 500s and Lightning Sprints.
