SGP WILD CARD: BRITISH ICON BEWLEY BAGS SPEEDWAY GP RECALL FOR 2027
Great Britain racer Dan Bewley has been selected as the third 2027 Speedway GP permanent wild card as he bids to build on a strong racing return.
Bewley joins fellow two-time FIM Speedway of Nations World Champion Jack Holder and Polish star Maciej Janowski in receiving a nomination for 2027, with one final wild card still to be announced.
The Cumbrian’s 2026 season was halted when he suffered a broken femur and compressed vertebra in his back in a crash at a Danish Speedwayligaen meeting in Outrup on May 20.
Bewley returned for the final two Speedway GPs, finishing fifth at the final round in Torun on September 26. He also completed the season with Polish club Wroclaw, winning PGE Ekstraliga silver. Prior to his crash, he also finished second at the Speedway GP season opener in Landshut, Germany on May 2.
While Bewley admits his recovery is ongoing, he hopes to build on his Torun result when he returns to the SGP World Championship line-up in 2027.
The 2025 bronze medallist said: “I am thankful to have the wild card. I am looking forward to the winter now and to coming back at 100 percent next year.
“It was nice to come back in Torun and do the last GP, which was alright. It was nice to go into a winter, knowing I am not 100 percent, but I can still do a not-bad job. It makes me excited to have a good winter and come back next year.”

Bewley hopes a winter of rehabilitation will help him make a pain-free return to racing next year.
He added: “I just need time really. I’ll keep working and have some fun over the winter. It’s kind of tough to enjoy it when you’re in a little bit of pain all the time and you’re trying to mask the pain. I can still do a bit of a job for now, and I am proud of that. But I am looking forward to coming back and being able to enjoy it that little bit more.
“I am getting better from meeting to meeting, but I am still pretty weak in certain areas. That’s really where my pain is – it’s just the lack of strength. But it’s all getting better.”
