SGP WILD CARD: HOLDER’S RECOVERY INSPIRED BY SPEEDWAY GP RETURN FOR 2027
Australian star Jack Holder has been confirmed as the second 2027 Speedway GP wild card as he bids to “come back bigger and better” after a season halted by injury.
The NSW-Appin-born racer’s season was ended by multiple injuries suffered in a crash at the DEWALT FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw on June 20.
But after five straight seasons in Speedway GP – and three straight top-six finishes from 2023 until 2025 – Holder is handed a permanent wild card for next season’s series by the SGP Commission, joining Polish icon Maciej Janowski, whose return to the Speedway GP line-up was revealed on Monday morning, October 5.
The Gorzow star was just hitting top form, having finished third and fourth in the ATPI FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Manchester double-header, before disaster struck at the Olympic Stadium.
His recovery is now progressing following further surgery last week, and Holder admits his Speedway GP recall only makes him hungrier to get back to full fitness.
He said: “Getting the wild card is a massive weight off my shoulders. I don’t really want to be relying on them, but it is always in the back of your mind. I think I deserve it, and it’s the first one I have had, so I will take it with both hands.
“It was going well, and everything was going in the right direction this year. I was looking good, but then the season got cut short.
“It has made me hungrier now that I have that wild card, and it has given me more purpose to set the record straight when I return.
“Obviously I am super excited to be back. I was stressed about it, but now I have this opportunity. I’m just trying to get back fully fit and come back bigger and better.”

Holder has openly admitted that he was troubled by persistent nerve problems in his hand, but mercifully, he has noticed a significant improvement following a further surgery last week.
He said: “My foot and back are pretty much 90 percent. Everything else was getting better and better and my hand wasn’t really improving at all. I was stressing out, so I decided to get another opinion from a nerve specialist in Manchester. Within three or four days after seeing him, I had the operation and there was a massive improvement.
“The nerve was quite stuck around a lot of stuff in there. That has all been freed up, and I have noticed a massive difference in 10 days compared to the previous four months. I am seeing some improvement and building myself back up.
“Now we are just trying to get all the movement and muscles back working because my arm has been asleep for about four months.
“The nerve is intact. It was stuck, but now it’s time for that to engage with my fingers again, and I’ll have some physio to try and get full movement back in my elbow and shoulder. It’s just physio, physio, physio now.”

Holder has another huge incentive in his recovery as FIM Speedway goes Down Under for the first time in a decade with the FIM Speedway GP of Australia – Adelaide double-header at Gillman Speedway on October 29 and 30, 2027.
“That’s awesome,” he said. “I heard there was talk about 2028, so when the calendar came out and I saw it, I was really hoping I was going to get the wild card then.
“I am really looking forward to it. I know it is a long way away, but it’s cool to see it on the calendar and give my friends and family back home something to look forward to. I have always liked going home and racing in front of all our family and friends.
“It’s awesome that it has finally gone back Down Under. It’s going to be a big effort for everyone, but it’s going to be very rewarding.”
The final two 2027 Speedway GP wild cards will be revealed in the coming days.
