NEW SPEEDWAY GP WORLD CHAMP LAMBERT CLAIMS MONSTER ENERGY TRIPLE CROWN

New Speedway GP world champion Robert Lambert didn’t just carry off the SGP trophy in Torun – he was also crowned winner of the first-ever Monster Energy Triple Crown series.

Riders’ race points from their five heat rides at each of the three Polish rounds in Wroclaw, Lodz and Torun were added together, with the highest scorer receiving the exclusive Monster Energy Triple Crown trophy after the final round in Torun.

It’s a competition with echoes of the sport’s one-off FIM Speedway World Final era pre-1995, which saw riders compete over a straight five rides for the sport’s biggest prize, with no semi-finals, LCQs, finals or sprint races.

Victory in his final heat ride in Torun saw Lambert pip Brady Kurtz to the trophy on 35 points, with the Aussie just one behind on 34 and Monster Energy athlete Patryk Dudek enjoying a late surge, scoring 12 race points in Torun to end up third on 33.

Six-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik finished in fourth place on 31, with Leon Madsen fifth on 28.

Victory in the Monster Energy Triple Crown saw Lambert collect both the Triple Crown and a special Monster Energy trophy for the Speedway GP world champion to add to the main SGP trophy.
