BEWLEY OUT OF BRITISH FINAL
DAN Bewley has regrettably announced his withdrawal from Saturday’s Cab Direct British Final.
The treble champion was included in the draw for the meeting in order to give every opportunity for him to make his comeback from femur and vertebrae injuries suffered in a crash in Denmark just under three months ago.
His original target was to race in the Manchester showpiece, followed by a Polish Eskstraliga meeting for Wroclaw next weekend, and then the World Cup Final in Warsaw on August 29.
However, the event at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium comes just too soon for him, and Bewley has now informed organisers of his decision.
Therefore, first reserve Jake Mulford steps up into the main line-up, and the reserves on the night will be Ace Pijper and Joe Thompson.
(SPEEDWAY 2)
IPSWICH have announced plans to celebrate the club’s 75th anniversary at their home clash with Leicester next week (Thursday August 20).
The Witches staged their first fixture in 1951 and representatives of all five of their top-flight title winning sides from 1975, 1976, 1984, 1998 and 2025 will be present at Foxhall.
A collection of club race jackets and kevlars from through the years will be on display as well as vintage speedway bikes – whilst current team manager Paul Hurry will compete in a unique second half on upright machines.
Chairman Richard Coleman said: “It’s an honour to be leading the club into its 75th anniversary season along with Andrew Chisholm and Paul Hurry, and we were keen to do something alongside one of our summer fixtures to mark the occasion.
“We look forward to seeing our Ipswich legends back at Foxhall for this special night and we are working on inviting many more.
“The sight and sound of the vintage bikes is sure to excite fans of every era, and this will definitely offer a very unique second half. I can’t wait to see Paul taking a few laps.”
(SPEEDWAY 3)
POOLE gave a dominant display in the second half of their clash with Scunthorpe to register a 58-31 victory in the top of the table encounter.
The Cab Direct Championship leaders were being held 15-15 after five races but a run of advantages followed as the Pirates ran up a big win.
Youngster Will Cairns piled up 13+1 from five rides whilst guest reserve Jordan Jenkins (11+2) and captain Zach Cook (10+1) were also in double figures. Guest Tom Brenan scored 14 from six outings for the Scorpions.
Poole star Lewis Kerr (7+1) said: “It was nice to win it so easily in the end. There were a few little things early on and that seemed to let Scunny in a little bit. I did a spark plug when leading and little things like that, but in the end a great win.
“We are making this place a tough place to come, and it helps when you’ve got such a good home track advantage and you’ve all got good set-ups – it gives you confidence going into the proper stuff at the end of the season. So we will just keep it going.”
(SPEEDWAY 4)
WORKINGTON gave their hopes of climbing the Cab Direct Championship table a boost with a 47-43 win at Oxford for a first away success of the season.
The Comets moved to within one point of the Cheetahs in the battle to avoid the wooden spoon, and they have two matches in hand.
They fought back from an early four-point deficit to win a last heat decider at Cowley with guests Chris Harris and Jason Edwards collecting a 4-2 whereas Oxford had needed a 5-1 for a win.
Edwards again impressed at the venue with 12+1 and Harris scored 10, whilst Sam Masters top-scored for the hosts with 9+1 in their final senior home fixture of the season.
Oxford reserve Darryl Ritchings (6+2) said: “We did our best as a team, but Workington just got the better of us.
“It’s been tough at times this season, but I feel I’ve stepped it up in the last month or so, as I’ve adapted to riding in the Championship and how the track around here evolves on those evenings.”

KING’S Lynn have announced the signing of Edward Kennett to join their WSRA National Development League team.
Kennett comes in for the Young Stars following his recent exit from Championship club Oxford, and will replace Jack Kingston in the Norfolk side’s septet.
Manager Jason Pipe said: “I’ve bumped into Edward on quite a few occasions this year, whether it’s been at a Speedway track or even at Grasstrack and we’ve had chats on a few occasions and he’s someone I’ve got on quite well with this season.
“It’s quite fitting that Edward should now be racing in the NDL, as the league is sponsored by the WSRA (World Speedway Riders Association) and the president of the WSRA is none other than his Uncle, Barney Kennett!
“I know this signing will receive a few negative responses, but when you get an opportunity out of the blue like this to bring in a rider which strengthens the team up, you don’t dismiss that, especially when we’ve been looking at bringing a rider in for a few weeks now with no joy.”
