BANDITS’ INSPIRING NARROW VICTORY
BERWICK number one Peter Kildemand made a sensational return from injury to inspire a dramatic 46-44 win over Glasgow at Shielfield Park.
Kildemand ran a last place in his first ride but then won his next five, including the decisive Heat 15 as the Bandits recovered from an early eight-point deficit to take the Cab Direct Championship points.
There was also a hugely successful debut for Jordan Jenkins, who racked up 13+1 from six rides at reserve to back up Kildemand’s 15-point total, whilst Chris Harris (11+2) and Leon Flint (11) led the scoring for the Tigers but lost out to Kildemand in the crucial final race.
Berwick boss Stewart Dickson said: “Individually a number of riders had off-nights, but collectively they stuck to their task and got the job done.
“Everybody played a part, but Jordan and Peter were quite outstanding.
“We haven’t raced at home for six weeks and I think that showed, but when it all comes down to it we have two points on the board against what is always one of the best visiting teams to Shielfield.”
Glasgow manager Cami Brown said: “It’s a very frustrating result, we blew a great chance to get a vital win away from home. I’m absolutely gutted with that one.
“Heat 14 killed it for us. We were shocked to give away a 5-1 at that stage.
“But for us it’s massively disappointing to lose the meeting from the position we were in. It’s a win that definitely got away.”

WORKINGTON edged out Oxford 48-42 in a last-heat decider at the GT Tyres Arena to move up to fifth place in the Cab Direct Championship table.
The Cheetahs dropped ten points down after Heat 4 but worked their way back into the meeting and they were just two adrift with two races remaining.
Tate Zischke and Max Perry gave the Comets some breathing space with a 4-2 in Heat 14, leaving the visitors needing a 5-1 from the last race to force a draw.
But Oxford suffered disaster before the start as Mitch McDiarmid was disqualified for exceeding the time allowance, with top-scorers Jonas Jeppesen (13) and Troy Batchelor (14) securing the home win with another 4-2.
Sam Masters led the Cheetahs’ scoring with 11 points despite a mechanical breakdown in Heat 1, whilst Edward Kennett made a solid debut with 7+1.

PLYMOUTH are through to the MAXiCab KO Cup Final after a pulsating clash with Redcar which went right down to the last of the tie’s 30 races.
Scott Nicholls and Danny King were the heroes for the Gladiators as they secured a 5-1 in Heat 15 for a 48-42 win on the night, giving them a narrow 91-89 aggregate victory.
Nicholls and Kjng had put the home side ahead overall when they took maximum points in Heat 13, only for Bears duo Jason Edwards and Jody Scott to hit back in Heat 14 after Ben Barker had crashed out.
But the home side prevailed and can now look forward to a Cup Final appearance against either holders Poole or Berwick.
Nicholls again rolled back the years with 14 from five rides for the Gladiators and King scored 11+3, whilst Redcar reserves Jake Mulford (11) and Scott (8+2) helped keep their side in contention throughout.

BUXTON race their first WSRA National Development League fixture since returning to the sport with early leaders Edinburgh visiting Hi-Edge today (Sunday).
The Bulls’ line-up now includes speedway returnee Jack Roberts at reserve alongside Ryan Ashcroft, with the team led by Alfie Bowtell and Jack Smith.
The Monarchs Academy have already secured hefty home and away wins over Middlesbrough, but they are without recent signing James Shanes, who is serving a 28-day suspension for withholding services, and in-form Ryan Ingram comes in to guest.
Buxton manager Laurence Rogers said: “We are aware that they have had a great start to their season and that we will have to be at our very best.
“They have a strong top five we know all about, and in Ben Whalley a rider that knows this place well, and he’s been in good form for them.
“It should be a cracker of a meeting, and hopefully we can get our league season off with a win.”
BUXTON: Alfie Bowtell, Jack Shimelt, Luke Harris, Arran Butcher, Jack Smith, Ryan Ashcroft, Jack Roberts.
