STEWART PRIMED FOR BOHUD RACING RETURN
To say that Michael Stewart is excited about his return to 410 Sprintcar racing with the Bohud Racing team would be quite the understatement – and the feeling is certainly mutual from everyone within the Bohud Racing team.
After spending the last six months on the sidelines with neck injuries following a crash back in September last year, Stewart is raring to go for his Sprintcar racing return aboard the NS # 14 Losi / Illawarra Truck Repairs & Spares supported Triple X car for this weekend’s Red Hot Shootout at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway in Queensland.
“It’s been quite difficult sitting on the sidelines, especially during the busy parts of the season, but it has pushed me on to work hard on my recovery and get back out there,” the 30-year-old said, who ironically makes his comeback to Sprintcar racing at the track where he got injured last September.
“During my recovery, I’ve managed to get myself into the best physical shape I’ve ever been in since I began speedway racing due to getting hard into some training, and hopefully it’s going to allow me to be competitive from the outset and amongst the front runners.”
The return of Stewart to the Bohud Racing team is with a heavy heart following the recent passing of integral team member Paul Jones following a short battle with cancer.
“Paul was a massive part of the Bohud Racing team and he lived and breathed Sprintcar racing, and he is already so dearly missed by everyone within the team. It’s going to be especially tough when we get out there and get back into racing,” expressed Michael. Paul’s favourite saying after Michael had returned to the pits after a run: “the car looks bloody fast.”
“There is no doubt about it, Paul would want the Bohud Racing team to continue with the Sprintcar racing program, and that’s exactly what we are going to do by going out there and racing in his honour.”
The $20,000 to win Red Hot Shootout is going to be fought out this Friday and Saturday night. At last season’s running of the event, Stewart enjoyed an impressive run and ended up finishing on the podium in third.
