TOLMER SPEEDWAY IS AUSTRALIA’S EQUIVALENT TO MISSOURI’S 1-55 RACEWAY
By Dennis Newlyn and ABC news
A little bit – but a very important portion – of Peverly, Missouri has been transplanted smack bang in the middle of Bordertown, South Australia. The American mid-west Speedway circuit I-55 Raceway is a one-third mile clay oval that has served speedway fans well, not only from Missouri, but throughout America for years.
Australia wanted the same in their own backyard! What began as a local Bordertown project almost three years ago, has become one of Australian Speedway’s success stories of the modern era – and it didn’t take multi million dollars and unrealistically high expenditure to get the perfect result.
The Sprintcar drivers who recently tested the new track, will verify that! All voiced their overwhelming approval and the new Bordertown venue is set to become one of the major tracks on the national scene- especially on the Sprintcar front. The whole town has got behind the venture to re-create one of the best-known speedway tracks in the US on the border of South Australia and Victoria.
The Bordertown Speedway Club announced in 2019 that it was winding up because of increasing costs and difficulty attracting volunteers.
