FORMER WORLD CHAMPION JASON DOYLE TO CONTEST INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY MASTERS
Australia’s 2017 Speedway World Champion, Jason Doyle, is a confirmed starter in the prestigious Ikon Suspension International Speedway Masters being conducted over two huge nights, at Gillman Speedway.
Doyle, from Newcastle in NSW, will contest the Leigh Adams Medal, featuring a world class field of international 500cc solo riders on night two, Saturday Night, December 28.
The Australian speedway gargantuan is currently sidelined in Europe, having undergone major shoulder surgery, hence thwarting what was a brilliant start to the SGP World Championship Series. Doyle was involved in a horror crash at Kings Lynn in the UK, suffering four broken ribs, a lung contusion, a torn rotator cuff and serious tendon damage.
Jason was leading the World Championship, prior to being injured, in what was a tremendous start to his 2024 campaign abroad. He started the season in breath-taking style, taking second spot at the opener in Croatia, before topping the podium in front of 50,000 fans at the FIM Speedway GP of Poland, Warsaw.
Despite recovering from shoulder surgery, Doyle is confident he’ll be fully recovered by October, which provides him with ample time to prepare for his assault on the Ikon Suspension International Speedway Masters at Gillman.
“It’s been frustrating undergoing surgery and all the necessary rehab, but the shoulder is improving every day,” Jason explained.
“I would normally ride with broken bones and injuries, but this time I couldn’t’ get away with it. I had no strength and I couldn’t afford to wait until the end of the season to get it sorted. I decided to have it repaired fast or it would have had long term consequences. I may not have been able to lift a beer when I retire!
“I’m on track with my recovery and accepting Tappy’s invitation to ride at Gillman, in the “born again” International Speedway Masters, was an easy decision. I’m not planning to ride in the Australian Championship, but I’m keen to do a few major open meetings.
“When I was a young bloke, watching the International Speedway Masters was one of the highlights of my childhood and I’m pumped to be a part of it. I know Tappy is putting a red hot field together, so it’ll be an awesome meeting at Gillman, which is a cracking venue,” Jason concluded.
Jason Doyle joins Fraser Bowes (SA) and Jaimon Lidsey (VIC) as the riders announced so far for the second night of hostilities at the ISM.
