FRICKE LIONS SKIPPER IN 2024
LEICESTER have confirmed Australian star Max Fricke has been appointed team captain ahead of the new Sports Insure Premiership campaign.
Fricke took over the role when the club made team changes last summer, and he will continue as skipper for their 2024 challenge which starts at home to Belle Vue on March 14.
New signing Sam Masters, who previously led Wolverhampton, has been named as vice-captain.
Manager Stewart Dickson said: “I enjoyed working with Max last season. The way he goes about his business is a good example to everyone, and I was very pleased he accepted the offer to continue as captain.
“After last year I know a lot more of the Premiership riders, Grand Prix riders and so on, you start to forge new relationships and everything that Max did impressed me.
“I mentioned earlier in the winter how pleased we are to have Sam on board with us, especially with how well he’s always gone at Leicester, and for me it’s a logical move to make him vice-captain in a team where he knows most of the riders very well.”

BELLE Vue star Dan Bewley will be going for a second Peter Craven Memorial victory in the club’s traditional curtain-raiser on Monday March 18.
A powerful field is being assembled for the big event at the National Speedway Stadium with World No.2 Fredrik Lindgren lining up along with former Aces captain Max Fricke and USA star Luke Becker.
CEO Mark Lemon said: “We don’t do anything by halves at Belle Vue. It’s go big or go home, and I’m very excited about the field we have put together for this year’s Peter Craven Memorial.
“Each of the four riders we have announced today are more than just big names in the sport. They have skills and talent befitting their international reputation.
“We are privileged at Belle Vue to enjoy such world class racing each week from our ATPI Aces, and it only makes sense that we start off by welcoming some of the best riders in the world to this track.
“Dan knows what it’s like to win this meeting and he is a powerful force at home, but nothing is set in stone and in the past there have been many dark horses in this event.”
