Launceston’s Jock Goodyer has continued his extraordinary form to win the second round of the ClayPerView Sprintcar Speedweek at Murray Bridge Speedway.
Goodyer, Brock Hallett, Lockie McHugh and Luke Dillon were all quickest in their respective qualifying groups, while Texan tourists Aaron Reutzel and Chase Randall registered second and sixth in group four.
Hallett claimed the A-Shootout to secure pole position for the 35 lap Main Event and would share the front row with Goodyer who executed a perfect start to trump the field, while Hallett was swallowed up to lose four places in the first rotation.
Rubbing salt into the wounds, Hallett was then sent rear of field, deemed to have been involved in an incident with Glen Sutherland and Chad Ely that saw Sutherland experience a crunching roll on the back straight.
The restart temporarily put the spotlight on Jordyn Charge and Ben Morris who diced brilliantly in the top five on occasion, while Texan Chase Randall battled through the field from 16th after winning the B Main.
Despite a few minor stoppages, Goodyer was unreachable, even for Reutzel who discharged McHugh and Egel and then made some courageous advances on the leader before the chequered flag fell.
While pleased with the outcome, Goodyer wasn’t getting ahead of himself, well aware that the mini-series hadn’t yet reached the half-way mark.
“Two wins now which is pretty cool, so we will head to Borderline and hopefully keep up the momentum, but the track was phenomenal and almost gave us three lines so it was great fun, and we’ll be back!”
Matt Egel would claim third ahead of Charge and Chase Randall, while McHugh faded to sixth and Hallett battled back from the rear to seventh.
The ClayperView Sprintcar Speedweek now heads to Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier Thursday night, while on the West Coast, the USA vs WA Speedweek will welcome five time World of Outlaws Champion to join the second round of their series at the Perth Motorplex, live on the 7Plus digital platform.
