FIM SPEEDWAY NEWS: ZAGAR RETURNS TO SPEEDWAY GP FOR SEASON OPENER
Slovenian star Matej Zagar makes an instant return to the World Championship stage as wild card for the FIM Speedway GP of Croatia – Donji Kraljevec on April 30.
Zagar exited the Speedway GP series at the end of 2021, but he lines up in the famous No.16 race jacket on a Speedway Stadion Milenium track, where he has a glorious recent record.
He won both the 2019 and 2020 FIM GP Challenges there to retain his place in the Speedway GP series for the following season, seeing off competition from all over the world on a track that has become a home away from home.
Zagar always brings a large band of travelling Slovenian fans across the border and is sure to pick up plenty of support in Croatia too.
He is no stranger to taking on the Speedway GP elite, having raced in the series full time from 2013 until 2021 and also in 2006 and 2007. He has 126 Speedway GP appearances and 700 heats to his name.
Zagar has also scored 991 championship points, meaning a semi-final appearance in Donji Kraljevec will see him reach the 1,000 mark.
The Ljubljana-born star is joined in Croatia by first track Nick Skorja, also from Slovenia, and Dennis Fazekas from Hungary. The duo line up in the No.17 and No.18 race jackets respectively.
