AUSSIES REPRESENTED IN PETER CRAVEN MEMORIAL
Five Australians will contest the prestigious Peter Craven Memorial at Belle Vue Speedway on October 23.
The annual event is held in honour of England two times (1955 and 1962) World Speedway Champion who lost his life in a crash at Edinburgh’s Old Meadowbank venue on September 20, 1963.
Craven was one of the best and most revered riders to ever wear the world famous Belle Vue body colour.
England’s 2021 Speedway of Nations World Champions Dan Bewley and Tom Brennan headline the entry list for the 2021 Peter Craven Memorial.
Australia’s three times World Champion, World Cup winner and World Under-21 titleholder Jason Crump leads the Aussie contingent that also includes Ryan Douglas, Jye Etheridge, Max Fricke and Brady Kurtz.
The club’s long running event will feature a 16-strong, all-star field and will again be decided with a six rider final which was successfully introduced into the format at last year’s fixture.
Belle Vue’s Director of Speedway, Australian Mark Lemon, said: “We’re thrilled to have such a strong line-up for the Peter Craven Memorial this year; when we celebrate the life and legacy of one of the biggest icons of Belle Vue.
“Dan and Tom make their first appearance at the National Speedway Stadium as World Champions and fans finally get to see Jason Crump in competitive action for the first time this season. There were so many riders prepared to commit to this meeting and we are very grateful to all those who will be joining us on Saturday night. We are determined to make this a night to remember as we call time on 2021 and look forward to more exciting times in the 2022 speedway season in Manchester.”
