FIM SPEEDWAY: TUNGATE SEEKS UK RETURN
Aussie ace Rohan Tungate believes a return to Britain’s Rowe Motor Oil Premiership could boost his hopes of Speedway GP success in 2027.
Tungate has represented numerous clubs in the UK, including Ipswich, Poole, Swindon, Somerset, Belle Vue, Peterborough and most recently Oxford, where he spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
After a year away, the FIM SGP Challenge runner-up is on the hunt for a British team place for next year and would come into a side on a bargain 5.89 average following his last season at Cowley.
With a greater range of circuits on the Speedway GP calendar in 2027, including tighter and more technical tracks like Ipswich, Donji Kraljevec and Gillman, Tungate believes a season in Britain could be the perfect training ground as he bids to shine on all surfaces.
The 36-year-old, who will race for Czestochowa in Poland’s Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga, said: “It could be a good move for me. I always enjoy Britain, but everything has to work out well with logistics and stuff like that.
“I also think being in Britain is good if I am in the GP. It means I am always on the bike and riding a variety of different tracks. I think that helps a lot. There is definitely a mix of tracks in the GP next year, so I think it could be good.
“If you look at this season, there were a few guys in the top half of the GP, who race in Britain. People like Dan Bewley and Jack Holder would have definitely been up there too if they didn’t get injured. I think it shows that Britain is a good way to go.
“I will also probably do a little bit in Sweden – maybe six or seven matches, plus possibly the play-offs. I am just trying to get a feel if there are any doors open in Britain.”
