FIM SPEEDWAY: DOYLE SEEKS FUN FINISH TO 2026
Aussie icon Jason Doyle insisted “I just want to have a bit of fun now” as he bids to end his 2026 Speedway GP season on a high.
Doyle made history when he became the sport’s first modern-day grand slam champion as Australia won the BOLL FIM Speedway World Cup Final – Warsaw on August 29, adding to his 2017 SGP world title and his 2022 and 2025 SON triumphs.
The Newcastle-born racer was elated to complete this golden hat-trick and now turns his attention towards the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens this Saturday.
Doyle is currently 10th in the Speedway GP World Championship on 59 points – 13 short of the top-seven position he needs to secure automatic qualification for 2027 with two rounds remaining.
While the 40-year-old is determined to reach his first Speedway GP final of 2026 this weekend, he isn’t panicking about his SGP status.
He said: “I need to start getting into the final. I just want to do myself proud in the last couple of GPs. I think that’s all I need to do. I am not going to worry about the future – I just want to have a bit of fun now.”
Doyle was elated to join forces with SGP rivals Brady Kurtz and Max Fricke, plus Ryan Douglas and reserve Rohan Tungate to end Australia’s 24-year wait for SWC gold at Warsaw’s PGE Narodowy as he became the 21st century’s first grand slam champion.
He said: “That’s one for the record books. It’s a great honour to win any world title – it’s a massive achievement. This one has been eluding me for years, and I have dreamed of doing this in front of the Polish fans many times, and in this stadium. It has finally come true.
“We are buzzing. It is unbelievable. I am proud of what happened, and it’s not going to be the end of it. I think the team and the riders coming up in the next 10 years are something special.
“I am like their father figure sometimes. But they don’t need help. Dougy just went there and did his job and didn’t think about the pressure. Deep down, you know it’s one of the most important meetings of the year. But we were all scoring points.
“There was a moment when I feared we were going to throw it away, but when you have Brady and Max coming up again and then Dougy scoring, there was no doubt that we were getting some medals. To have scored 10 points in a world final with an exclusion, I am happy with that. I am still here, and I still want to race against the best in the world. There is no better feeling; it’s a drug you can’t match.”
