BRITISH SPEEDWAY WEEKLY BULLETIN 2026/19

Feature photo by: JACK CUPIDO… A REMARKABLE finish to the Scottish derby on Friday saw Edinburgh and Glasgow draw 45-45 for the second time in eight days as league points were shared at Armadale.
But it was the visitors who left the happier as not only did they compete a comeback to take a point from the match, they also won the subsequent Super Heat for the aggregate point to move above the Monarchs in the Cab Direct Championship table.
The result left four teams tied with 18-points at the top of the Championship table on Friday night (Scunthorpe, Poole, Glasgow and Edinburgh), although Poole have since moved a point clear of the pack after picking up an aggregate point at Berwick on Saturday.

HOW IT STANDS
BELLE Vue have secured their play-off place and are ten points clear at the top of the table after their win over King’s Lynn on Monday. However, the next four teams are covered by just five points in that looks set to be a close battle for the remaining play-off positions.

DREAM DEBUT FOR ELLIS
ADAM Ellis produced one of the individual performances of the season with a remarkable 20-point haul on his Northampton debut in the Foxes’ 47-42 defeat at Ipswich.
Co-promoter Paul Hunsdon said: “It was an unbelievable Foxes debut from Adam. He produced an absolute masterclass, and after the second place in his first ride he never looked troubled after that.
“Young Mitch (McDiarmid) as a bit unlucky in Heat 2 and then he had the crash with Scott, but he looked okay in his last two rides, as did Luke Harrison, and we’re really happy with his attitude and the way both the new riders fitted into the team.”

BRENNAN REBOOTED
IPSWICH team manager Paul Hurry was pleased to see Tom Brennan rebuilding his confidence without the pressure of being at No.1 as his side saw off Northampton 47-42 at Foxhall.
Witches won the contest despite starting the night with a six-man side, which was reduced to five riders when Scott Nicholls tangled with Foxes reserve signing Mitch McDiarmid in Heat 6.
Hurry said: “Tom came to the party. Tom has been scarred and he’s going to take time to get his confidence back. It has been knocked big time.
“He had a similar injury to what Valentino Rossi did. Look how long it took him to come back – it was over a year to get back to his best. The injury he had was quite severe, and people don’t realise that.”

ACES SET TARGET
BELLE Vue have secured their play-off place once again, but manager Mark Lemon insists there must be no letting up at this stage as they bid to move towards their ultimate goal.
The Aces confirmed a top four finish when they defeated King’s Lynn 48-42 on Monday despite going into the meeting without injured duo Peter Kildemand and Tate Zischke.
Lemon said: “What’s important now is that we keep pushing on, because I want us to finish top of the table.
“We deserve that for what we’ve done so far, and without wanting to count any chickens at this stage, what would be really nice would be to have the decisive leg of the Grand Final at home.”

TIGERS STEP UP
SHEFFIELD manager Simon Stead praised the full team effort in a big home win over Leicester with the Tigers reserves both making strong contributions.
Stead said: “Again it was nice to see plenty of really strong individual performances – and it was nice to see the contribution from our reserves after their disappointment at King’s Lynn on Monday, I was really pleased with that.
“I can’t really have any complaints and we thank Doyley (Jason Doyle) for coming in, really gelling in with the team and doing such a fantastic job out on track.”

TOUGH WEEK FOR LIONS
LEICESTER No.1 Ryan Douglas is looking for his side to hit back strongly after successive heavy away defeats.
The KO Cup winners went down 57-33 at Sheffield last Thursday, just 72 hours after conceding 61 points at Belle Vue.
Douglas said: “We had a similar thing at Belle Vue so we know it’s not good enough. We’re going out there and giving it 100 per cent but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way.
“It’s nice that we finished with a couple of decent races at the end, and we just have to dust ourselves off and look forward to the next one now.”

LYNN’S POSITIVE NIGHT
KING’S Lynn took encouragement from their display in a 48-42 defeat at Belle Vue on Monday which saw them register the best score of a visiting team in league competition in Manchester this season.
Manager Rob Lyon said: “The boys gave 100 per cent, I can’t ask any more that. Losing at home to Belle Vue was always going to make it an uphill struggle away, but that’s been and gone we’ve got to move on from that.
“I think we came tonight with no real pressure because nobody was expecting us to get a result, so we can take something from the fact that we scored 42 points. There’s still a lot to play for this season.”

THE WEEK AHEAD…
SECOND placed Leicester host third placed Sheffield at the Hydroscand Arena on Thursday with the Tigers having recorded a big win at home when the sides met last week… League leaders Belle Vue head to Northampton on Thursday… The Foxes have two home matches in quick succession as they face Leicester at the Shaleway on Monday… Sheffield stage a rare Monday meeting at Owlerton when they take on King’s Lynn.

ALSO: Belle Vue stage the Cab Direct British Final at the National Speedway Stadium on Saturday (7pm) with Robert Lambert defending his title on what promises to be a memorable night in Manchester.
 
CAB DIRECT CHAMPIONSHIP  LATEST

HOW IT STANDS
POOLE are one point clear at the top of the table after a dramatic weekend of action left them just ahread of Scunthorpe, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Closest challengers points-wise are Redcar and Berwick, who both need strong runs in their final meetings to challenge for the top four.

TIGERS’ SUPER HEAT SUCCESS
GLASGOW pulled off a 45-45 draw at rivals Edinburgh with a dramatic late comeback at Armadale to match the Monarchs’ recent result at Ashfield.
The Tigers then won the Super Heat for the aggregate point with skipper Chris Harris and unbeaten guest Nick Morris their heroes in the closing stages.
Manager Cami Brown said: “We’ve been unlucky with guests recently but for Nick to get a maximum is phenomenal. That was possibly the most complete performance you could ask for. We can only thank him for his commitment.
“Chris Harris was typically outstanding. He made some fabulous passes and was brilliant in the big races.
“Special mention to Kevin Juhl Pedersen. We were a corner from losing the meeting in Heat 14 but he never gave it up and got the win on the line that kept us in it.”

STUNNING WIN FOR  BANDITS
BERWICK kept their play-off hopes alive with an incredible comeback to defeat champions Poole 48-42 at Shielfield Park.
The Bandits completed the meeting with three successive 5-1s, with reserve Reid Battye picking himself up from a heavy Heat 14 crash to play his part in the re-run.
Manager Stewart Dickson said: “It was a very brave ride from Reid and, having been handed the opportunity, Nick (Morris) and Leon (Flint) delivered the win in style.
“Our future is in our own hands. We have beaten Poole tonight with a couple of riders off-form. There’s three meetings left for the Bandits and realistically we must look at winning them all.”

MONARCHS LET IT SLIP
EDINBURGH picked up a point from a home draw with Glasgow to match the result they had achieved in the reverse fixture one week earlier.
But the Monarchs were left frustrated by the outcome having been in a winning position until the closing stages, with a late turn of events seeing them also lose the aggregate point.
Reserve Mitchell Cluff said: “It’s a tough one, a Scottish derby, to let it slip. I thought we would tie it up in Heat 14 but Paco (Castagna) got done on the line and then we know what happened.
“For myself I’m happy with how I did but we win together as a team and we lose together as a team. We needed Jordy (Loftus), I hope he’ll be back soon.”

SCORPIONS MAKE THEIR POINT
SCUNTHORPE salvaged the aggregate point from their trip to Oxford last Wednesday courtesy of a stunning showing from skipper Josh Pickering.
The Scorpions’ No.1 was unbeaten from his completed rides, and after suffering mechanical trouble when leading Heat 13 he overhauled his Cheetahs opposite number Sam Masters in Heat 15 to secure the point.
Pickering said: “I threw everything at Sam in the final race and fortunately it paid off. 
“If that hadn’t have happened and we’d lost the aggregate bonus point, I’d have been very disappointed, because we needed that point. We came here to win, and it was important we left with something.
“My engine blew up in Heat 13 – there’s nothing you can do about that. One thing I’ve not had before is an 18-point-maximum and that was the closest I’ve been.”

PIRATES OVERTURNED
POOLE co-boss Gary Havelock said he took fitness concerns for guest Edward Kennett into account when deciding not to give him an additional ride during Saturday’s narrow defeat at Berwick.
Havelock said: “I really wanted to use Eddie a bit more but the guy was blown out, really feeling it, absolutely knackered. He’s 40  years old and been out the sport for a few years and he just couldn’t do it.
“I wanted to use him in Heat 14 but he said he was done. I knew we needed him so I did a deal and said if you can’t do 14 you will have to do 15, which he did.
“But it is what it is and on a different day we would have won that.”

CHEETAHS PLAN AHEAD
OXFORD stage their final home Championship fixture of 2026 this Wednesday with Workington the visitors, both sides having endured a tough campaign.
Cheetahs promoter Jamie Courtney said: “Any on-track problems have been dwarfed by what happened behind the scenes earlier this year. There was a point when our ‘last’ meeting could have been at the start of this season.
“One of the biggest positives to come from all the upheaval was that Spencer Timmo and Mike Austin joined me on the leadership team. Along with team manager Peter Schroeck, we have not only been looking at getting the best out of this season but also looking at what is ahead.”

THE WEEK AHEAD…
THE top two clash at Wimborne Road on Wednesday as Poole host Scunthorpe… the Pirates then head to Edinburgh on Friday to face another of their potential play-off rivals… Glasgow face Redcar in a key fixture at Ashfield on Friday… Oxford race their final home meeting in the league this season with Workington the visitors to Cowley on Wednesday.

WSRA NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LATEST

HOW IT STANDS
EDINBURGH’S win at King’s Lynn last Thursday maintained their 100 per cent record and leaves them five points clear at the top. Leicester also remain 100 per cent having raced just three fixtures so far.

MONARCHS ACADEMY MARCH ON
EDINBURGH made it five wins out of five in 2026 with their impressive away victory at King’s Lynn last Thursday, despite being without two regular team members.
Heat leader Dayle Wood said: “Scott (Wilson) does really well and never lets us get down, he worked his butt off to get the team together but also he told us he had the faith in us that we could cover the rider replacement for Jordy (Loftus).
“I have to give a thanks to Ashton (Vale) as well for stepping in. He was excellent and came into the team like he was a part of it. We all rode really well, we kept the winning streak going and it is onto the next one.”

BULLS MAKE IT TWO
BUXTON followed up their home win over Oxford with another Hi-Edge success, this time against King’s Lynn, and manager Laurence Rogers praised their recovery from defeat at Middlesbrough one night earlier.
Rogers said: “At Middlesbrough we felt a little down after being in contention there, what a difference a day makes in sport as we did similar to King’s Lynn this afternoon – and hopefully we can do similar next week when we face Middlesbrough in the return match.
“We have  a team and bunch of lads that really want to do well for this club and I’m chuffed for them.”

TOUGH TIMES FOR YOUNG STARS
KING’S Lynn slipped to the foot of the NDL table after suffering a home defeat to Edinburgh followed up by a 51-39 reverse at Buxton which saw them miss out on the aggregate point.
Manager Jason Pipe said: “It’s a frustrating result but really we just ran out of riders. We coped for a while and were level after Heat 9 but then they just walked away with it.
“It’s been one of those seasons. If we’d won we’d have gone second in the league but now we’ve gone bottom, and now with three matches left hopefully I can strengthen up with another heat leader before the next meeting.”

THE WEEK AHEAD…
BUXTON bid for a hat-trick of home wins when they face Middlesbrough at Hi-Edge on Sunday, with the Tigers having won the initial clash between the side on Teesside last weekend.
