LAMBERT ON THE PACE
GREAT Britain’s Robert Lambert finished in the top two for the fourth Grand Prix running as he was runner-up in Latvia on Saturday, August 8.
Lambert, who will defend his British title at the National Speedway Stadium next Saturday, is ten points off the World Championship lead with two rounds of the series remaining.
Defending champion Bartosz Zmarzlik re-established the lead by taking his second GP win of the season at Riga, whilst Lambert closed the gap on Brady Kurtz to six points after the Belle Vue skipper finished third.
The fight for the title seems set to be going down to the wire with the final two rounds to come at Vojens and Torun in September.
Lambert said: “It’s a great thing for people to be talking about – there’s some excitement around the top three. I’ll just ride my bike and do the best I can, and we’ll see where it leaves me at the end of the season.
“It seems to be going well at the moment. I am happy with that, and I am in a nice, comfortable position going into the last two.”

BERWICK produced a sensational comeback to stun Cab Direct Championship leaders Poole at Shielfield Park on Saturday.
The Bandits’ unbeaten home record looked set to be smashed as they trailed by eight points with three races remaining.
But in scenes of high drama, they reeled off three successive 5-1s to pull off a 47-43 victory and move to within four points of the play-off places with crucial matches against Edinburgh still on their fixture list.
In-form Nick Morris (16+1) and guest Leon Flint (10+3) were the Berwick heroes in Heats 13 and 15, whilst Jordan Jenkins and Reid Battye took a maximum over Sam Hagon in Heat 14 after the Pirates’ Cooper Rushen had been disqualified for bringing down Battye.
Poole guests Sam Masters (14) and Edward Kennett (12) both won their first four races, but they were on the receiving end of the decisive 5-1 in Heat 15.
Berwick manager Stewart Dickson said: “We had to dig deep for that but in the end I feel we worked hard enough to deserve the win.
“Our future is in our own hands. We have beaten Poole tonight with a couple of riders off-form. There’s three meetings left for the Bandits and realistically we must look at winning them all.”
Poole co-boss Gary Havelock said: “Obviously I am a bit gutted at the end, but overall very proud of the lads.
“We got the aggregate point. Of course I would have liked the win, it would have been good. It clearly meant a lot to them, they were dancing around as if they had won the league. They won’t even make the play-offs!”

MIDDLESBROUGH moved up to second place in the WSRA National Development League table with a 56-34 win over Buxton at the Ecco Arena.
Ace Pijper made a successful return from injury for the Tigers with 14 points, missing out only to Bulls guest Jake Mulford in Heat 6.
Nathan Ablitt also scored double figures for the hosts with 12+1, whilst reserve Jack Roberts tallied 9+2 for the Bulls.
Buxton manager Laurence Rogers said: “It’s disappointing to lose so heavily in the end after being very much in with a chance of getting something out of the match at the halfway point.
“But in the second half of the meeting despite our best efforts we were just not able to hold on.”

BUXTON bid for a second successive home win in the WSRA National Development League when they face King’s Lynn at Hi-Edge today (Sunday).
The Bulls overcame Oxford last week and now track a revised riding order with Jack Roberts moving into the main body of the team whilst Nathan Ablitt guests for the injured Jack Smith at No.1.
The visitors are looking to complete a home and away double, and they welcome back Ollie Binnns after a wrist injury, whilst Stene Pijper is in for Sam Woods once again, and Jack Kingston and Kyran Lyden are also sidelined.
Buxton manager Laurence Rogers said: “It will be a tough meeting and one we are capable of winning. We are in good form and boosted by the win over Oxford last weekend.
“We have had to shuffle the pack a little with the new green sheet averages, but we have riders that are quite capable of scoring well and I’m hopeful that we can get the win and the aggregate point.”
King’s Lynn boss Jason Pipe said: “If we can win at Buxton, we’d also take the aggregate point and that would take us up to second place in the league table.
“Ollie has been like a bear with a sore head over these past few weeks he’s not been able to ride and is very much looking forward to getting back to racing again. I’ll do my best to try and not give him seven rides in his first meeting back!”
