RELAXED LAMBERT QUALIFIES FOR 2027 SERIES AFTER GP CHALLENGE WIN

GREAT Britain’s Robert Lambert was a classy winner of the Grand Prix Challenge in Terenzano on Saturday to officially book his place in the 2027 series.
Lambert is third in the current World Championship standings so may not need the security of the place from the Challenge, but he still put on a dominant display in Italy to lead the scorers and win the Final.
He said: “I am pretty secure in the GPs at the moment and something big would have to happen for me not to be in the top seven, so it was a nice, relaxed environment coming to Italy. That showed in my racing. When I am relaxed and fully focused, the results come.
“I am super happy. I nearly got a maximum in the meeting and then it came down to a final again. I was very close to not winning the final – the same as in Malilla. But we pulled it off. It was nice to get on the podium and secure my space in the GP for next season.”
Rohan Tungate, most recently in the UK with Oxford last season, qualified as a full-time GP rider for the first time, whilst former Lakeside favourite Kim Nilsson also made the top four, along with Polish racer Kacper Woryna.
GB’s other two competitors both missed out but Chris Harris did win his first and last races to finish on seven points, whilst Anders Rowe collected four.

(SPEEDWAY 2)

WORKINGTON salvaged a 45-45 draw in their home Cab Direct Championship clash with Edinburgh thanks to a last-race 5-1.
Comets guest Nicolai Klindt completed an impeccable 18-point maximum as he combined with Drew Kemp for a 5-1 and a share of the spoils.
That meant it was a case of mixed emotions for the Monarchs who had led the bulk of the meeting and were eight points up at the halfway stage, but they could still be content with two more league points to strengthen their grip on a play-off place, as they now sit second in the table.
Reserve Jordy Loftus kept up his great form for the visitors with 12+1, whilst Jonatan Grahn and Kye Thomson both notched 11+2.
Edinburgh boss John Campbell said: “I think we’ve got to be very pleased with picking up another two league points. Anything we can get away from home is a bonus. Nicolai Klindt of course made all the difference, (Jonas) Jeppesen may not have scored a maximum.
“But I’m very pleased we got the draw and the aggregate. We had some exceptional performances.”

(SPEEDWAY 3)

BERWICK recovered from an early deficit to defeat Plymouth 49-41 at Shielfield Park on Saturday.
The meeting went down to a last heat decider with the Gladiators, who had been four points up approaching the halfway stage, needing a 5-1 to draw.
But the visitors suffered a major blow when Scott Nicholls was disqualified for touching the tapes, with Peter Kildemand and Nick Morris securing the Bandits’ win with a 5-1 over Danny King and Anze Grmek.
Kildemand scored 12+1 for the home side with Morris on 11+2, whilst Danny King with 11 and Ben Barker with 10 both won three races for the Gladiators.

(SPEEDWAY 4)

REDCAR switch to Sunday racing for a home clash with Plymouth at the ECCO Arena tonight (7.30pm).
The home side can move up from their current seventh place with a win, whilst the Gladiators complete a busy three-day northern tour which has so far seen them miss out at Edinburgh and Berwick.
The visitors bring in Vinnie Foord to guest at No.6 in place of Anze Grmek who is racing in Poland.

(SPEEDWAY 5)

IPSWICH have been boosted by the return of recent signing Kevin Juhl Pedersen ahead of this week’s Premership KO Cup Final against Leicester.
Juhl Pedersen has been sidelined since a crash at Glasgow left him with lung bruising, but he has been cleared to return for the first leg clash with the Lions at Foxhall on Monday.
Manager Paul Hurry said: “I spoke to him on Wednesday, and I asked him, ‘What’s the state of play?’ He said, ‘I am coming back at the weekend, I’m getting a ferry back, so I am going to be ready.’
“He had a trek to get home. I think he got a boat to Amsterdam, and his dad picked him up.
“He couldn’t fly, and I think that’s why he can’t fly back to the UK. He’s getting a boat back. You can’t knock his effort – he’s dead keen. Hopefully he will come over and feel good.
“He said he is really enjoying it with the Witches, and he has settled in well. All credit to him – he has had one meeting at home so far, and he did okay in that. He got better as the night went on.”
