ACES EXTEND TOP-OF-THE-TABLE LEAD

BELLE Vue stretched their lead at the top of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership to six points with a 50-40 win at King’s Lynn.

The Aces were successful for the second time this season at the Adrian Flux Arena with the result also seeing the Stars drop out of the play-off places.

The hosts fought back from an eight-point deficit to move level after Heat 10, but the visitors edged back ahead and clinched victory with a 5-1 in Heat 14 from Zach Cook and Tate Zischke, with their top two of Brady Kurtz and Jason Doyle ending things in style in Heat 15.

Doyle dropped just one point as he scored 13+1 whilst Kurtz added 12+1, and reserve Zischke carded an important 8+2. Jan Kvech won three races to lead the Stars’ scoring on ten.

Belle Vue manager Mark Lemon said: “It was another really determined performance, we were solid from one to seven again and I’m really happy with that effort.

“I wouldn’t say we were in control of the meeting but we just had that edge that allowed us to put a bit more pressure on King’s Lynn, and it’s always nice when you can lead.
“They came back strongly, and for us Zach (Cook) and PK’s (Peter Kildemand) pairing wasn’t the best tonight, but they came good at the end as we did as a team, and Brady and Jason were outstanding.”

Stars boss Rob Lyon said: “We had a little misfortune with Bomber (Chris Harris) in one race, but overall it was just not quite good enough unfortunately.

“Belle Vue are a strong team but if I’m brutally honest I had high hopes that we would turn them over tonight, and we just fell short again.

“If you look through the heats we had too many last places, but some of those boys also had some very good highlights. Belle Vue were just that bjt more consistent.”

(SPEEDWAY 2)

SHEFFIELD skipper Josh Pickering came up with a magnificent Heat 15 effort to salvage a 45-45 draw at Northampton and lift his side back into the play-off places.
The Foxes were on a 5-1 with Niels-Kristian Iversen and Troy Batchelor but Pickering overtook both for a match-saving 3-3 having earlier overhauled Jaimon Lidsey in Heat 13.

The meeting was delayed in the early stages for track work but the UK’s newest venue then staged its best meeting yet with several exciting races.

Iversen and Batchelor both scored 11+1 for the home side, who picked up league points at home for the second time, whilst Pickering’s (14) only defeat came to Kye Thomson in Heat 6, and Chris Holder scored 10.

Sheffield manager Simon Stead said: “We probably did enough for the win, but sometimes it’s just not your night.

“We were in points scoring positions on a couple of occasions where we slipped up – but those sorts of things, you just have to roll with the punches a little bit.

“It’s a step in the right direction though and I think anybody who was here, or watched on the stream, will see that we didn’t down tools, we got together and we gave it our best shot and we raced to the chequered flag in every single heat.”
Northampton boss Chris Adams said: “Obviously there were a few issues right at the start, but after the work that was done it was fantastic and we saw the results of that with the racing.

“The hope was that the new material was going to mix a bit better with the stuff we’d already got, but there was just a bit too much and it was clumpy in places, so that was hard for the riders.

“A point for a draw is better than a loss, it’s another point on the board and we’ll focus on next week now.”
