FIM SPEEDWAY: KVECH WINS SHORTENED SEC CHALLENGE IN LONIGO
Czech charger Jan Kvech booked his place in the 2026 Speedway European Championship series after taking victory in a curtailed SEC Challenge at Italian track Lonigo on Saturday, June 13.
The meeting was halted after 16 heats due to concerns over track conditions at the former FIM Italian Speedway GP venue.
Prior to the stoppage, Kvech racked up 11 points from a possible 12 to secure his spot in the four-round SEC series – the winner of which secures a guaranteed spot in the 2027 Speedway GP series.
He is joined by former world number three Maciej Janowski, who finished second on nine, with triple European champion Mikkel Michelsen also making it through on eight points in third.
The final spots were claimed by former Danish champion Rasmus Jensen and Polish brothers Przemyslaw and Piotr Pawlicki, who all scored seven.
Danish racer Mads Hansen and former British champion Adam Ellis both fell short on six, with former Speedway GP riders Pawel Przedpelski, Kim Nilsson and Kai Huckenbeck, Britain’s double FIM Speedway of Nations world champion Tom Brennan, Italian star Nicolas Covatti and French racer David Bellego all missing out on five points.
They are joined in the SEC line-up by the top six riders from the 2025 series, European champion Patryk Dudek, double SEC champions Andzejs Lebedevs and Leon Madsen, Speedway GP newcomer Kacper Woryna, SGP2 champion Nazar Parnitskyi and Danish champion Michael Jepsen Jensen.
The final three places will be handed to three wild cards selected by FIM Europe and series promoter One Sport.
The 2026 SEC series gets underway at Polish track Zielona Gora on July 18. Round two takes place at German club Gustrow on September 5, with the third leg at Polish venue Rzeszow on September 19. The decider takes place at Czech track Pardubice on October 2.
