A DRAWN MATCH
EDINBURGH and Scunthorpe fought out a dramatic 45-45 draw at a damp Armadale in the Cab Direct Championship with the hosts recovering from a nightmare start.
The Scorpions took 5-1s in the first two races to go eight points ahead but the Monarchs recovered and established a narrow lead with a 5-1 in Heat 10.
The visitors immediately levelled in the next race and four successive shared heats completed the meeting with home riders coming from the back in the closing stages.
Guest Nick Morris sliced between Connor Mountain and Nathan Ablitt in Heat 14 for a 3-3 whilst the Scorpions held a match-winning 4-2 position in Heat 15 until Morris slowed down Michael Palm Toft enabling Kye Thomson to come through for a point.
Morris racked up 14+2 from six rides in an impressive stand-in performance for Paco Castagna and Thomson scored 11+1, whilst former Monarchs skipper Josh Pickering collected 14 on his Armadale return.
Thomson said: “I thought in mid-meeting we were doing enough to get the win.
“Conditions certainly made it difficult. We had a good guest in Nick Morris who did an awesome job.”
Scunthorpe boss David Howe said: “A point is a point and I’ll be happy with an away draw when I have more time to reflect on the result. It was another good away performance from the boys and we could have won the match.
“I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t win, but that shows how well the team is now working together, because a few weeks ago we would have seen this is a very positive result. Everyone contributed tonight – it was a team performance.”

REDCAR will take a narrow advantage to Plymouth tonight (Saturday) for the second leg of their MAXiCab KO Cup semi-final after a 47-43 home win at the ECCO Arena.
Reserve Jody Scott inspired a Bears comeback as they recovered from an early four-point deficit, with the Gladiators ahead by two with six races remaining.
Scott and Simon Lambert were set for a 5-1 in Heat 12 only for Lambert to suffer a puncture, but Scott then passed Ben Barker on the last bend of Heat 14 as the hosts did secure a maximum advantage.
Nicolai Klindt won Heats 13 and 15 to ensure the Bears won the meeting, and he scored 13 with Scott on 12+2. The Gladiators’ top two of Danny King (12+1) and Scott Nicholls (11+2) were both unbeaten in their first three rides.
Both teams are unchanged for the second leg at the Coliseum.
PLYMOUTH: Danny King, Joe Thompson, Daniel Klima, Ben Barker, Scott Nicholls, Anze Grmek, Tom Spencer.

BERWICK welcome back Danish star Peter Kildemand for their long-awaited return to Shielfield Park against Glasgow tonight (Saturday).
The Bandits are racing at home for the first time in six weeks after rain-offs and other gaps in the schedule, meaning Kildemand has only missed two fixtures whilst sidelined with a broken collarbone.
There is a debut for Jordan Jenkins at reserve after he joined as cover for the injured Reid Battye, whilst the Tigers are seeking a first away win and they include four former Berwick riders in their line-up.
Bandits manager Stewart Dickson said: “Nobody is going to be fooled into thinking we face anything other than a huge challenge on Saturday from a Glasgow side with more laps under their belt around Shielfield than Berwick.
“Peter’s return is a huge boost as we face a busy period in both the league and cups, and the addition of Jordan Jenkins gives us a bit of balance at the bottom end of the team.
“We have done what we set out to do so far, but reaching the play-offs was also on our to-do list. For that to happen we have to make sure that we win our home meetings – no matter how tough the opposition.”
Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “We’ve had a bit of a break from racing as a team and we need to come back firing on all cylinders.
“Berwick is a tough place to go. They have Peter Kildemand back and have signed Jordan Jenkins, they look strong.
“But we have riders who ride Berwick really well and we are capable of getting the away win we need.”
BERWICK: Peter Kildemand, Jye Etheridge, Victor Palovaara, Lasse Fredriksen, Nick Morris, Jack Smith, Jordan Jenkins.
GLASGOW: Chris Harris, Sam Hagon, Leon Flint, Kevin Juhl Pedersen, Kyle Howarth, Mario Hausl, Freddy Hodder.

WORKINGTON and Oxford are both chasing their second league wins of the season when they clash at the GT Tyres Arena today (Saturday, 3pm).
The Comets were successful at home to Scunthorpe last time out whilst the Cheetahs got off the mark in their home match against Edinburgh.
There is a riding order switch for the hosts with Vinnie Foord now in the top five and Niklas Holm Jakobsen at reserve, with rider replacement in operation for Craig Cok under their 28-day facility.
For the visitors, Edward Kennett makes his debut but Luke Killeen is not ready to return from rib damage and they also use rider replacement.
Workington boss James Denham said: “They have a couple of experienced riders in the reserve berths, both of whom have made guest appearances for the Comets this season.
“That said, I’m confident that if we perform as we can, we should claim our second league victory.”
Cheetahs manager Peter Schroeck said: “We’re looking to be competitive. It’s a great racetrack up there – and all the boys are looking forward to the meeting.
“We’ll give it our best shot and see if we can come away with some league points. With a little luck in our direction, I can’t see why we can’t do that.”
WORKINGTON: Jonas Jeppesen, Vinnie Foord, Craig Cook R/R, Tate Zischke, Troy Batchelor, Niklas Holm Jakobsen, Max Perry.
OXFORD: Sam Masters, Luke Killeen R/R, Anders Rowe, Edward Kennett, Mitch McDiarmid, Darryl Ritchings, Dayle Wood.
