PIRATES’ COMFORTABLE VICTORY
DEFENDING Cab Direct Championship holders Poole eased to a 54-36 win over Redcar in their league opener – despite a dominant display from visiting No.1 Nicolai Klindt.
The former Pirates star raced to a six-ride 18-point maximum as he contributed exactly half of the Bears’ total on his own.
But the home side had much the better of proceedings when Klindt was not on track, securing five 5-1s in the first eight races to establish a clear lead.
Richard Lawson scored 11+1 from five rides but the stand-out display came from 16-year-old reserve Will Cairns, who collected 11 from four, although he suffered the setback of a blown engine after winning Heat 14.
Cairns said: “Hopefully the points I scored tonight might just cover it and I might just break even, but it’s like everyone in the speedway community says, the motors go best just before they blow, and it proved that tonight.
“I didn’t really change anything. I didn’t do great last week and then tonight it’s 11. I’m gutted though, because I actually wanted a maximum. That is my goal for this season.
“I showed a bit of lack of experience in the race with Nicolai there, but I gave him a run for his money.”

SHEFFIELD stage their first home ROWE Motor Oil Premiership fixture of the season tonight (Thursday) with reigning champions Ipswich the visitors.
Having being eliminated from the Knockout Cup and having lost their league opener at King’s Lynn last week, the Tigers are extra keen to get a win on the board.
The Witches did notch their first league points on Bank Holiday Monday when they overcame the Stars at Foxhall, and they include former Sheffield riders Tobiasz Musielak, Danny King and Jason Edwards.
With Philip Hellstrom-Bangs still serving a Swedish federation ban, Plymouth’s Daniel Klima steps in to guest at reserve for Ipswich.
Sheffield manager Simon Stead said: “I want us to start getting off to a stronger start in the opening set of races to give us a little bit of an edge, and hopefully from there the lads can maintain their nights from there on in to help deliver the results we’re all craving.
“Ipswich have built another pretty solid side, we always seem to have some good head-to-heads against the Witches and this is another intriguing one, I don’t think anyone could argue with that.”
King said: “Sheffield is a tough place to go, but I think we can go there and do something. It’s important to keep it as close as possible if we are going to lose, but I think with the team we have and the way we are going, there is no reason why we can’t go there and get a result out of it.
“It’s certainly going to be tough. We are all going to have to be on our game. It is going to take a full team to get that job done.”
SHEFFIELD: Jack Holder, Anders Rowe, Chris Holder, Leon Flint, Josh Pickering, Jye Etheridge, Luke Killeen.
IPSWICH: Tom Brennan, Danny King, Richard Lawson, Scott Nicholls, Tobiasz Musielak, Daniel Klima, Jason Edwards.

NORTHAMPTON host King’s Lynn in their second home fixture as they look for a win to build on the success of their opening meeting at the Shaleway.
The injury-hit Foxes have raced four of their first five matches on the road and went down to two defeats at Belle Vue and Leicester on Bank Holiday Monday.
It’s the final fixture in the southern section of the Premiership KO Cup, and the visitors will be keen for the track time with a league visit to come next month.
Northampton bring in Zach Cook to guest for the injured Matej Zagar, whilst Lewis Kerr replaces Niels-Kristian Iversen who is due for further hospital checks today as he seeks permission to fly and join up with the team next week.
Foxes boss Chris Adams said: “I certainly want him back for our first home league match, and hopefully he’ll be back before that.
“Elsewhere we’ve seen some inconsistency a couple of times with this team so far, even within one meeting, but the riders are all working hard to try and cure it.
“It’s still early days, so we move on to the next meeting and I’m sure against King’s Lynn it will be an exciting night of racing entertainment.”
King’s Lynn manager Rob Lyon said: “It’s a little bit of a dead rubber for us because it’s a Cup match, but it will still be good experience for everyone.
“It gives us a chance to get some knowledge of the track and set-ups and whatever, ready for when we go back there in the league in June.”
NORTHAMPTON: Jaimon Lidsey, Troy Batchelor, Zach Cook, Lewis Kerr, Nicolai Klindt, Kye Thomson, Luke Harrison.
KING’S LYNN: Max Fricke, Paco Castagna, Chris Harris, Ben Cook, Jan Kvech, Cooper Rushen, Jody Scott.
