EGEL ISSUES STATEMENT AFTER ENDING SPRINTCAR TEAM INVOLVEMENT
Australian Sprintcar driver Matt Egel has issued the following statement following his racing team departure:
“ I am writing this to announce that the S52 WER team and myself have decided to officially end all obligations with each other.
This was a decision both Geoff Brown and myself have made whilst talking about the future for both of us.
The last 6 years have been a big part of my career with close to 30 feature wins, including the 360 Australian title and 2 time Chariots of Thunder Champion. We also had podium finishes in pretty much every state we travelled. Geoff Brown and his team gave me the opportunity to travel the country racing, which until then hadn’t been an option for me. We proved we were a top five car where ever we travelled.
This year (season) was a tough one for many reasons and when things aren’t going right it gets tougher. It’s a shame we couldn’t have finished on a high and taken out 1 more win but racing isn’t easy.
I have to thank Geoff Brown, Jennifer and Michael for the opportunity to race the s52 for the last six years, it was a good six years with lots of great memories. Thanks to all the crew over the years Corey, Luke, Neil, Triggy, Bailey, Jordan and anyone else that helped out from time to time. Your hard work and dedication was appreciated.
And thanks also goes out to all the race fans out there for your support. We had followers in every state we travelled.
For me I’m not sure what is next, this may be it. I’m not saying the retirement word as you can never say never. I’ll have a break and spend time with my family and see what comes.“
