BRITISH SPEEDWAY: A CENTURY OF SPEEDWAY ACKNOWLEDGED
A CENTURY OF SPEEDWAY ACKNOWLEDGED
REMIER League football giants Chelsea have launched a new range of leisurewear inspired by the history of speedway racing at Stamford Bridge nearly a century ago.
The West London stadium provided one of the pioneer venues for the sport when it launched in the UK on a professional basis, and a crowd of nearly 50,000 attended the opening meeting in 1928.
The Stamford Bridge Pensioners team then won the inaugural Southern League title in 1929 and competed for four seasons before being disbanded in favour of greyhound racing.
The leisurewear collection includes a nod to former speedway captain Gus Kuhn on a reversible bomber jacket which includes his number 42, whilst the league title success is celebrated on the tracksuit jacket and quarter-zip sweat top.
Current first-team players Liam Delap and Jorrel Hato, along with Kadeisha Buchanan and Oriane Jean-Francois from the record-breaking women’s team, were the models for The Speedway Collection.
