A collision between two emergency vehicles during Saturday night’s (March 14) World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprintcar Series event at Kennedale Speedway Park (Kennedale,Texas) resulted in a fatal injury to one official and serious injuries to another.
In a statement released late Saturday night, World Racing Group said the crash occurred while officials were responding to an earlier incident during staging of the Last Chance Showdown event.
According to a report from Kennedale News, the initial incident began when Sprintcar driver Marcus Thomas flipped prior to the LCQ. As safety crews responded to assist Thomas and organize cars preparing to enter the track, two side-by-side vehicles operated by officials collided in the infield.
World Racing Group added that the incident remains under investigation. The remainder of the evening’s program was postponed before the scheduled 35-lap feature could be run.
