McFADDEN WINS KRIKKE BOYS SHOOTOUT AT PERTH MOTORPLEX
The feature race at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, February 14, started at 9.23pm and finished at 10.17pm.
A lot unfolded in that time, with bone-jarring crashes, a couple of major fence repairs and track conditions that tested the best of the best.
Ultimately victory went to James McFadden ahead of Aaron Reutzel and Lachlan McHugh in the Total Tools Rockingham Krikke Boys Shootout.
The win capped off a big Australian campaign for McFadden in the Team Brady W23, following on from his wins in the Barbagallo Australian Mr Sprintcar Nationals at the same venue a week earlier.
He had a lot of work to do in the 35-lap final, starting from p13 – after earlier on being fifth quickest in his qualifying group, moving up a spot to take fourth in his heat race and winning the BR Motorsports / King Racing Products Midpack Madness.
Reutzel ended his summer in Australia for Monte Motorsports with another podium.
His season was highlighted by a win at the Classic in Warrnambool and he also took a series victory in Bunbury in January, as well as the Performance Racegear Midweek Mayhem on Wednesday night.
Reutzel started the show by setting the Victory 1 Performance Quick Time and moving from p4 to second in his heat race.
He was second to Jock Goodyer in the Revolution Racegear A Dash, setting him up for a p3 start in the feature race.
McHugh rounded out his five-night stint in the Diamond Bay Motorsport W26 with third, after starting seventh, his best result since stepping into the seat previously occupied by Kerry Madsen who moved to S&D Motorsport.
He was third in his qualifying group and took the win from a front-row start in his heat race before being fourth in the A Dash.
Goodyer and Brodie Davis started on the front row after winning their respective Dashes.
Momentum was hard to find in the feature race that saw Brad Maiolo, Brodie Kostecki, Callum Williamson, Jason Kendrick and Taylor Milling out before a lap was even in the books.
After nine laps they were joined by Michael Keen, Mick Saller, Randy Morgan and Ryan Lancaster which saw track officials swing into action to repair a section of fence on a night that kept them busy.
Add in more spins, more red lights, more cautions, a fuel stop, and even a tense moment for ‘Coney’ after being run over by Jack Williamson on one of the restarts and it was a high night of drama.
Even Reutzel came unstuck in turns 1-2, hitting the fence and completely spinning around, activating the cautions, before he recovered and rolled back into his track position.
At the start of show, heat two was marred by contact between Kendrick and Marcus Dumesny, with Dumesny out for the rest of the show and Kendrick on the infield with a flat right rear tyre.
Tim King had a big roll in the fourth heat when coming out of turn 2, also putting him out for the night.
The series now takes a two-week break before rounds 18-19 are held at Geraldton City Speedway on Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1 (the March long weekend).
