BRILLIANT BROCK TOOWOOMBA WINNER

Brock Hallett administered a brilliant drive in traffic in front of an enormous crowd at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec-Oils Speedway on Saturday night, Janary 3, winning the fourth round of the Cush Clothing Sprintcars Queensland Speedweek Series.

Making it four different winners from the four rounds. Hallett captured his second career victory at Hi-Tec-Oils Speedway and it was also the first Queensland Speedweek win (in the series) afer he won the Sprintcar feature race in Warrnambool two nights earlier. Aaron Kelly secured his fourth consecutive podium after leading the majority of the race before Hallett got by him in heavy lapped traffic.
Cooper Norman and Aaron Kelly started on the front row, with Norman getting a lightning fast start and settling into the race lead. Harry Stewart, from position four, jumped to attention quickly and followed on the high line making his way into second with half a lap completed, with Kelly third, destined for his fourth speedweek podium just ahead of Brock Hallett. The race was however quickly paused when Brent Kratzmann clipped the inside wall bringing on the yellow lights.
A restart followed with Kelly getting the better start this time around, with Norman second ahead of Hallett as Stewart ran around the top to advance from fourth. Hallett had a quick look underneath Norman and thought better of it as Norman stood the car up on the right rear tyre in turn four and subsequently the car went into a series of flips. The medical team took some time to assist Cooper from the car and after mandatory checks at the track he was then transported to hospital for observation overnight and was released the following morning.
Just prior to the restart the decision was made to cancel the twin 20 lap features in favour of a single 30-lap final and that turned out to be the right decision as far as the race unfolded and it didn’t disappoint. From the restart Kelly started from pole position with Harry Stewart elevated to the outside front row. Kelly got the jump on the start with Stewart in second until Brock Hallett raced through on the bottom with half a lap complete. Hallett secured second, leaving Stewart in third ahead of Jackson Delamont and Nick Whell within striking distance.
Hallett started looking for a way underneath at this point in the race and was better on the bottom, he switched to the top and the pair raced side by side without success, this time around it was Kelly who was the better both evenly matched as they raced side by side high and low. Meanwhile, Whell started searching the top for a way around Jackson Delamont just as Kelly and Hallett got to lapped traffic. Hallett looked underneath Kelly again without success, the pair beginning to weave their way through lapped traffic, while Whell slipped past Delamont.
Kelly was superb out in front, hitting his marks every time knowing Hallett was coming he lifted and the huge crowd loved it and the race through traffic was terrific. Kelly maintained the advantage over Hallett as the pair cleared the field and into clean air, but the race between the two wasn’t quite over yet. Hallett had a big look on the inside of Kelly with seventeen laps to run. Kelly was too good mid track and maintained the lead. Hallett came at him multiple times during the course of the next few laps again searching high and low as they approached lapped traffic.
Hallett switched to the high line and tried to clear the lapped cars as Harry Stewart was struggling with a broken throttle spring. Hallett was holding nothing back as he searched for a way through.
Kelly was momentarily caught behind a lapped car giving Hallett the opportunity he had been waiting for. Kelly fired a shot back but without success, by this time Hallett had opened a small margin with five laps to run.
But the race wasn’t over for Nick Whell either as he was challenging Jayden Peacock for third, while upfront Kelly had closed right in on Hallett as he encountered heavy lapped traffic. Whell and Peacock put on a show as they traded places back and forth as they negotiated over a podium finish. Whell throwing caution to the wind running the high line and going forward quickly, Kelly had one last look for a way past Hallett as they raced through the final corner but it was Brock Hallett who got the win ahead of Aaron Kelly, with Jayden Peacock home in third. Nicholas Whell settled for fourth after a superb race forward and on occasions had progressed to third.
Brodie Tulloch and Jacob Jolley shared the front row in the 360-LS Sprintcar A-Main, and while Jolley was a little in front on the start it was Tulloch who led by the end of the first lap. Jolley settled into second while Ryley Smith, Darren Jensen and Jack Walker negotiated over third. Smith and Jensen raced two wide with Smith setting out after Jolley moments later.
Jolley closed in on Tulloch in lapped traffic just as the yellows came on when Noah Ball made heavy contact with the turn four wall. Tulloch led the restart and another caution quickly followed when Aylssa Cherrie rolled to a stop with a steering arm issue. Tulloch led the restart from Jolley and Smith, while Tulloch again opened up a comfortable margin from that point there was no stopping him. Tulloch went on to take the well earned win, with Jacob Jolley second and Ryley Smith home in third for his ninth consecutive podium. It was once again another brilliant night of Sprintcar racing with plenty of action racing two and three wide at various times. Daniel Cassidy won the Late Model feature race from Carter Armstrong and Lachlan Onley.
