HOLDER PIPS LIDSEY TO VICTORY IN AUSSIE CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER

Speedway GP star Jack Holder overhauled Jaimon Lidsey to snatch victory in the opening round of the Australian Solo Championship series in Albury Wodonga on Saturday night, January 3.

Lidsey topped the heat score chart with a 15-point maximum from five rides, with Holder second in the standings on 14 as both riders secured automatic qualification for the final.

Despite Lidsey hitting the front in the final, Holder found a way through to top the podium on the night – meaning the riders are tied on 18 championship points going into tomorrow’s second round – also at Albury Wodonga.

Two-time Aussie champion Rohan Tungate won semi-final one, before taking third spot in the final, leaving him third overall on 14 points. Leszno and King’s Lynn star Ben Cook claimed fourth place, reaching the final with victory in semi two as he ended the round with 11 points – putting him one ahead of his younger brother Zach Cook.

Former SGP2 star Keynan Rew and Jacob Hook are tied on nine points, with 2025 SGP2 rider Mitchell McDiarmid on eight.

After the second leg of the Albury Wodonga double-header on Sunday, the action moves to Mildura on Wednesday, with Adelaide track Gillman staging the title decider on Friday.
