Callum Williamson struck the first blow in the 2025-26 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series championship, winning the City of Kwinana Powerpalooza at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, October 18.
The former two-time series champion won the drama-filled and drawn-out 30-lap feature race after starting from position seven.
Second place went to Taylor Milling, who started from 10, while third went to Daniel Harding, who started from p9.
Williamson started the night by being third quickest in his qualifying group, and he then took a second in his heat race and raced up from sixth to fourth in the A Dash.
Before the race started, polesitter Kaiden Manders, who earlier in the night set the Victory 1 Performance Quickest Time with a 12.856 second lap, the only driver to dip into the 12s, had mechanical issues.
Crews were able to get the car going and he started from the rear, elevating Kris Coyle, who was out of p3, into the front spot, alongside Dayne Kingshott from p2.
After a few incidents, and restarts, and with only two laps in the books, there was contact between the two front runners which saw Coyle spin around and Kingshott deemed the cause and sent ROF, seeing Williamson, Milling and Jaydee Dack being the top three to that point.
One of the big movers was Jy Corbett who started from p14 and had moved up to third after swapping out spots with Jason Kendrick, and then made contact with second-placed Milling and was out of the show.
With 16 of 30 laps complete, stewards made the decision for all cars to pull up for a fuel stop.
The final restart occurred with three laps to go and while Williamson and Milling were unchallenged in their spots, Brad Maiolo, who had run up to third, lost ground to Harding to made a late move to take the final podium placing.
Maiolo, who started from p11, held down fourth from Kingshott, who raced back through the field, to be fifth, Kendrick (from p5) was sixth, James Inglis (from p16) was seventh, Michael Keen (from p19) was eighth, Dack (from p6) was ninth and Chad Pittard (from p18) rounded out the top 10.
Round two of the series will be back at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday, November 1, for the Electrical Group Training Westernapolis.
