YOUNG AMBROSE ADELAIDE BOUND FOR NAPA JUNIOR CUP
By Dennis Newlyn
Lismore Speedway’s Ambrose Sauer has been selected amongst an exclusive group of 20 Junior Sedan drivers in Australia to compete in the NAPA Junior Cup Invitational at the 2025 BP Adelaide Supercars Grand Final on Saturday, November 29 and Sunday, November 30.
It’s a huge honour for the aspiring ten year-old local driver to get the call-up to run in the celebrated Junior Speedway event driving his Datsun Sunny sedan. The Juniors will compete over two nights on a temporary speedway dirt track at an oval normally reserved for summertime cricket before it will be transformed into a racing circuit especially for the upcoming weekend.
The NAPA Speedway Junior Cup Championship will be run on a pointscore system incorporating two heats and a feature race on both days.
Ambrose has already embarked on a racing career in Karts and heads to Adelaide with four years experience under his belt.
Last April he filed an “expression of interest” application to the South Australian Motorsport Board to compete in the Adelaide Invitational and it all went from there. Ambrose, whose parents, Mick and Kim Sauer are former promoters of Castrol Lismore Speedway, was overwhelmed and overawed, totally lost for words, when he got the call up.
“It’s a great opportunity,” he said.
“I will be the youngest driver there and I am looking forward to the experience. I was stoked on hearing the news of my successful application. I couldn’t believe it.”
Two other regional area Junior Sedan drivers, Benji Gordon and Travis Dhu, also will compete in Adelaide.
