TIGERS’ GRAND FINAL QUALIFICATION
GLASGOW are through to the Cab Direct Championship Grand Final after a sensational late turnaround against fierce rivals Edinburgh.
The Tigers trailed by eight points on aggregate with just three races remaining but they pulled off two 5-1 and a 4-2 to snatch the semi-final 91-89 on aggregate.
Chris Harris and Kyle Howarth both made their way past Victor Palovaara and Kye Thomson for a 5-1 in Heat 13, before Leon Flint and Max Perry collected a 4-2 in Heat 14 to cut the gap to two points.
Harris and Howarth then sealed the comeback with maximum points over Thomson and Justin Sedgmen in the decider for a 53-37 win on the night, and by just two points overall.
Howarth completed a 13+2 paid maximum for the Tigers whilst Harris (14), Dan Thompson (11) and Leon Flint (8+3) all dropped just one point to an opponent. Sedgmen (11) and Thomson (10) scored double figures for the visitors.
Tigers boss Cami Brown said: “I can’t speak highly enough of the boys. The atmosphere in the pits was electric, they worked so hard and never gave up.
“It was truly heart-stopping stuff because it looked like we were going to fall short. The spirit of this team was just incredible to keep fighting until the end when all seemed lost.
“I’m just so pleased for the fans, just sensational scenes. A huge crowd and they went wild at the end.”
Thomson said: “I think we got everything thrown at us, but we hung in for so long and it’s disappointing to get pipped in the last race.
“We all stepped up and we pushed the team that finished top all the way to the last race, so we can be proud of that, but it hurts.”
Glasgow will now face the winners of the other semi-final between Poole and Redcar in the title decider.

REDCAR were restricted to a 48-42 win over Oxford at the ECCO Arena to leave their MAXiCab KO Cup semi-final nicely poised at the halfway stage.

But the Cheetahs fought back well as they picked up four 5-1s in the last five races to narrow the gap heading back to Cowley on Sunday.
Charles Wright top-scored for the Bears on his 200th appearance for the club with 10+2 whilst Jake Allen guested well with 10+1, and Jake Mulford chipped in with 9+1.

WORKINGTON and Berwick complete the regular Cab Direct Championship campaign when they meet at the GT Tyres Arena today (Saturday).
The Bandits are currently fifth in the table and will confirm that position with the aggregate point after a 12-point win in the reverse fixture, whilst a big win on the day for the Comets would see them overhaul their visitors.

The Bandits have Mitch McDiarmid guesting for Nick Morris who is ruled out after his crash at Sheffield last week, along with rider replacement for Sam Hagon who was injured when the sides met at Shielfield Park.

OXFORD have the chance to wrap up the WSRA National Development League title when they travel to Middlesbrough today (Saturday).
Victory in their final fixture would secure a second NDL crown in three years for the Chargers – but if they slip up on Teesside, the door would still be open for either Edinburgh or Leicester.
Peter Schroeck’s side bring in Harry Fletcher to guest for the injured Max Broadhurst but they are otherwise at full strength, whilst the Tigers have Mason Watson guesting for Jamie Halder along with a reserve combination of Liam Greens and Kieran Douglas.
Schroeck said: “We’ll place no pressure on the boys and we’ll be treating it like a normal meeting. Those lads work so well together as a team, and they always want to win.
“They just need to get stuck in, help each other out and enjoy their afternoon and we’ll see where we are come the end of the meeting.”
Middlesbrough manager Brian Turner said: “We are out to spoil the party for Oxford. We don’t have a full 1-7 but we will be looking for another home victory.“We need to get going right from the off. It’s disappointing that we are without our reserve pairing but hopefully our two reserves can bag some points.”
MIDDLESBROUGH: Ace Pijper, Elliot Kelly, Stene Pijper, Mason Watson, Tom Spencer, Liam Greens, Kieran Douglas.
