The Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series (MTSS) will return to Bunbury Speedway for one big show this coming season.
It has been confirmed that the iconic south west venue will host round 11 of the 2025-26 championship as part of the WA Speedweek series, on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Traditionally the track has hosted a round on New Year’s Day, as well as other rounds, however the club has made a decision to consolidate its position this summer.
Part of that consolidation is based on getting a new clay surface in place.
Newly-minted Bunbury Speedway general manager Brad Blake is one of the people driving the change and is overseeing the major project.
A clay deposit, very close to the original clay source, has been identified and is being analysed, with a view of it having it in place for a restricted 2026 season.
Blake said, if all that goes to plan, they will run some test and tune days before the first major event – on January 3.
“Our objective is to stop tyre wear,” Blake said.
“And to restore competitor confidence with Bunbury Speedway and the Bunbury Car Club.
“We want to get a good base and from there we can plan ahead more for the following season.”
Blake said he was looking forward to hosting a round of the MTSS on January 3, instead of January 1, saying it would allow everyone to enjoy New Year celebrations – and it will give teams who are contesting Speedweek a mini break.
The confirmation of the Bunbury round marks another piece of the puzzle being put in place for the 2025-26 championship which is co-ordinated by the Sprintcar Entrants Group (SEG).
SEG chairman Geoff Kendrick said it was great news that Bunbury was still able to be part of the MTSS.
“Bunbury has a played a proud role in Sprintcar racing in Western Australia for a long period of time and we are grateful for that – and we wish the club well in its endeavours to get a new surface in place.
“The overall calendar is very close to being finalised and we can’t wait to share some more exciting news about the series in the very near future.”
