PIRATES OVERCOME POINTS DEFICIT AND REGISTER IMPRESSIVE WIN
CAPTAIN Zach Cook led Poole to a third away win of the Cab Direct Championship campaign as they triumphed 50-40 at Scunthorpe.
The Pirates are nine points clear at the top of the table after the victory at the Eddie Wright Raceway where they recovered from a six-point deficit after six races to turn the meeting in their favour.
Cook’s 5-1 with Lewis Kerr in Heat 10 put the visitors ahead for the first time, and Cook also won the final two races with his success in Heat 14 clinching the victory.
The only dropped point for Cook came in his first ride against Connor Mountain as he finished with 14 points, whilst Richard Lawson picked up 11+2.
Steve Worrall scored 9+1 for the Scorpions who remain in the top four but dropped further points at home.
Cook said: “I don’t know why, but I do love riding this place and it was good to get amongst the points.
“But more importantly it was a super all-round team performance, and it feels good to come away with another good win.”

GLASGOW remain second in the Cab Direct Championship thanks to a hard-fought 48-42 win over Redcar at Ashfield.
The Tigers were given a stern test and were heading for a nervous finale when the Bears reduced the deficit to just four points with three races remaining.
Chris Harris and Kyle Howarth recorded a key 4-2 for the home side in Heat 13 before their excellent guest Tate Zischke won Heat 14 to clinch the victory.
Harris top-scored on 16 points from six rides with Zischke impressing on 11+2 and Howarth added 11. Charles Wright scored 14 for the Bears.
Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “We knew it was going to be close, and it was good to finally get it wrapped up at Heat 14.
“There was a lot to like in that performance. We were under pressure without Dan Thompson and Leon Flint.
“But our boys rode their hearts out and managed to pull off a really big win. It was a gritty performance.
“Special thanks to guest Tate Zischke who did an outstanding job for us. He gave 100 per cent in every race and possibly was the difference in the end.”

EDINBURGH’S rapid start at Armadale proved enough to put their Cab Direct Championship clash with Plymouth well out of the visitors’ reach.
The Monarchs won 51-39 to move up to third place in the standings, having gone 14 points ahead by the completion of Heat 6.
Captain Paco Castagna won his first four races to finish with 13 points and Justin Sedgmen was also in double figures with 10+1 as the home side claimed all three points available from the meeting to remain firmly in the frame for the play-offs.
However, the Gladiators finished well thanks to a trio of 5-1s in Heats 11, 13 and 15 from Nicolai Klindt and Scott Nicholls.
Danish star Klindt dropped just one point as he collected a classy 17 points whilst Nicholls – in his first meeting since serious injury last October – changed bikes after his first two rides and then partnered Klindt to each of the three maximums as he finished on 7+3.
Castagna said: “Who would have thought that I wouldn’t be happy with 13 points? I’ve been pushing hard for the last couple of weeks to get something going here – I found a great setup and I was making starts and felt very comfortable.
“I was glad to play my part for the team, which I hadn’t been doing. A great confidence booster and a fantastic win.”

WORKINGTON bid to build on last week’s win over champions Poole when they face Scunthorpe at the GT Tyres Arena tonight (Saturday, 6pm).
The Comets returned from a pause in their season to defeat the Pirates but they are still playing catch-up in the Cab Direct Championship in terms of meetings raced.
They edged out the Scorpions in the BSN Series in a last-heat decider earlier this year but they will be without Antti Vuolas who is on international duty, with rider replacement in operation.
Meanwhile it’s an important meeting for the Scorpions who need to bounce back from the home loss they suffered to Poole on Friday night.
Comets boss James Denham said: “Scunthorpe gave us a good run for our money when they came here in May, but that was our first meeting of the season and we were still shaking off the winter cobwebs.
“Since then, we’ve had some really solid results—especially last weekend’s win over Poole, which gave the boys a real boost and belief, and reminded us what we’re capable of.
“This one won’t be easy either, but after the performance we put in last Saturday, there’s no excuses why we can’t do it again. Everyone needs to dig in and keep the last places to a minimum – because like us, Scunthorpe have got strength right through their team.”
WORKINGTON: Troy Batchelor, Antti Vuolas R/R, Fraser Bowes, Jye Etheridge, Tate Zischke, Jacob Hook, Vinnie Foord.
SCUNTHORPE: Steve Worrall, Simon Lambert, Declan Kennedy, Connor Mountain, Jake Allen, Luke Harrison, Zaine Kennedy.
